Job Purpose:

As EHS Specialist, this individual will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the environment, health, and safety programmes for the facility. This specialist will have broad knowledge of EHS programs and EHS specialty areas including Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Risk Management.

 

As the Industrial Hygiene Professional (IH), this individual will be responsible for implementing Haleon’s Industrial Hygiene strategic objectives & targets and the management of related programmes.  Included in the responsibilities of the IH is to act as the Chemical Agent Subject Matter Expert (CA SME), who is responsible for leading programmes aimed at reducing chemical exposure risks and managing compliance to the Haleon Chemical Agent Standard, related Technical Support Documents, and local statutory requirements.

 

The EHS Specialist – Industrial Hygiene will provide guidance in managing budgets to support outside services and operating expenses. The role includes strategic EHS planning as well as a tactical role for site-wide EHS systems, EHS regulations, and best practices.

The Industrial Hygiene Specialist is a professional who focuses on ensuring the safety and health of workers by identifying, evaluating, and controlling hazardous agents in the workplace. These hazards can include chemicals, noise, radiation, and ergonomics. The IH’s primary goal is to prevent workplace-related illnesses and injuries by recommending strategies and solutions to minimize exposure to harmful elements and conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Employee Health & Wellbeing

• Helps to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees on site and acts as CA SME providing guidance and support to management, project teams, and employees. May act as Ergonomics SME as well.
• Helps create a work environment that is clean and comfortable for the operator allowing them to perform at their best, free from distractions (like noise).

2. Exposure Risk Identification

• Established programmes to identify and assess workplace exposure risk such as chemical agents (dust, solvent, asbestos) and physical agents (noise, vibration, laser).

3. Exposure Control Strategies

• Develops strategies and programmes to manage exposures at source as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) and removes the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) (lowest form of control).
• Collaborates with other professionals to develop engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) strategies to manage exposure risks.

Skills and Competencies:​

Essential

• Bachelor ‘s degree in related discipline (e.g. environmental or safety management, engineering, or science).
• 1-3 years of experience in managing Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics risks in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Pharmaceutical or related high-hazard sector.
• Membership of a relevant and internationally recognized professional organisation (e.g. IOSH, IChemE).

Preferred

• Certified/Registered Industrial Hygienist with an internationally recognized professional organisation.
• This position requires knowledge of Safety and Environmental requirements and regulations. Hence any formal education around these requirements is preferred.
• Knowledge in the use of any/all of the following databases: Cority IH, 3E, VEHS (Humantech) Industrial and office Ergonomics, and Bayesian Statistics (IHDA Data Analyst).
• Good relationship building and networking, to engage effectively with site personnel, senior management, EHS and Regional leads.
