Manager EHS

Huntsman is seeking a Manager EHS supporting the Shared Services Division located in Merrimack, NH. This position will report to the EHS Regional Sr. Manager.

Job Scope

The position exists to ensure that Huntsman Advanced Materials, Merrimack Site, and Huntsman Polyurethanes, Derry Site, conduct business in accordance with all corporate and regulatory policies, procedures, and acts of law regarding the environment, health and safety; and that the company is effectively providing an environmentally sound, safe and healthy work environment for the employees of both the Merrimack Site and the Derry Site, as well as the extended neighboring community.

In summary, as the Manager EHS, you will:

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate environment, health, and safety standards such as, but not limited to: OSHA, ACC Responsible Care, TSCA, DOT and EPA
• Provide advice and counsel to plant management and act as an advisor to the Site Manager(s) in all matters pertaining to health, safety, process safety, and environmental compliance of the site
• Direct the implementation of federal, state, and local governmental policies and regulations in matters of environmental compliance, health and safety and assure compliance in all matters under his/her direction
• Deliver monthly and annual reports on site environmental performance (waste and emission data), personal safety and process safety performance in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements
• Continuously improve safety and environmental performance by investigating accidents, injuries, and hazards; build rapport with local networks, agencies and support improvement teams. Develop and maintain EHS improvement plans
• Be accountable for overseeing site environmental compliance activities; this may include air, water, and waste requirements
• Be a visible presence in the facility assessing compliance with health and safety, PSM and environmental requirements, utilizing coaching and mentoring skills to drive EHS improvements
• Be accountable for site EHS training, including employee orientation, contractor training, emergency drills, industrial hygiene, safety and environmental training including SPCC, stormwater, emission events, and waste handling and disposal
• In conjunction with managers and supervisors of other site departments, assist the Site Manager in setting site policies, practices and procedures and in operating the plant so as to maximize profits
• Perform as an active participant on the Site Leadership Team
• Follow instructions and perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
• Assist other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals
• Participate in and complete company-required training programs
• Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

Education required

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field
  • 3+ Years Experience Related
  • Will substitute with 5+ years and an associate’s degree in same Field of Study above

Skills and knowledge

  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience in OSHA and Environmental Agency reporting
  • Requires a broad knowledge of environmental, health, safety and process safety regulations and laws governing research and development facilities
  • Must have high technical and analytical abilities to identify environmental, health and safety hazards and recommend solutions to mitigate risk
  • Requires tact and diplomacy in dealing with government representatives, press representatives, associates, and the general public

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental and safety software systems such as KMS and Cority a plus
  • Preferred experience in the chemical industry or research and development facilities
  • Experience with Behavioral Based Safety Systems desirable
  • Certifications in one or more applicable areas of environmental, health, and safety (i.e., CIH, REM, CSP)

Working Environment
