About the role

This role is responsible for leading all environmental, health, and safety and engineering operations within the site. This position ensures the site is meeting the global and local environmental, health, and safety requirements; engineering projects are executed effectively; utilities and facilities are maintained to ensure safety, compliance, and productivity; OT/IT infrastructure and cybersecurity compliance; and maintenance of the facilities and utilities systems to ensure the site functions as desired to enable production. 

The individual needs to understand manufacturing, packing, and warehouse technology; Industry standards for Project Management and Capital Systems management; and EHS local and corporate standards. They need to understand the business strategies and how to translate the strategies into the objectives of Engineering and EHS. They need to be able to translate the innovation and growth requirements into the Safety and Quality compliant equipment solutions that meet the business timing and cost. 

This role is challenged with problems with EHS incident investigation and resolution, defining engineering solutions to business challenges at target cost and schedule, OT cybersecurity threats, natural disasters emergency response and BCP execution, and equipment productivity losses resulting in loss of production requiring engineering preventative maintenance or re-engineering.  Innovation is required to develop new equipment options to meet capacity growth, new production introductions, and resolution of chronic production outages. 

Key responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management 
    • Lead the EHS and Engineering team of 20-50 people based on size of plant to deliver against the Site Objectives: Vision setting, objective setting, execution coaching, evaluation of progress, staffing, team engagement, career coaching.
  • Site Safety Management 
    • Have Duty Holder understanding of the environmental, health, and safety standards to ensure that the site has the governance, systems, and processes to meet the global and local standards. Staff the EHS and W team to have the skills to meet the sufficient level of expertise and execution in the high hazard systems. Coach site EHS leader on safety cultural programs that ensure that safety is owned by everyone in the site.
  • Engineering and Capital Project Management Leadership
    • Lead the site capital systems and project team to deliver projects with excellence: deliver cost, schedule, safety/quality, OEE, and other business criteria. Ensure that the financial management of projects meets financial compliance expectations. Support the definition of investments that enable the site objectives: Savings, Growth, and compliance.
  • Automation/OT/IT Management
    • Ensure of the execution of the maintenance and cybersecurity of the OT infrastructure along with ensuring the installation of automation technology needed to deliver the site productivity and growth goals at the lowest OPEX.
  • Utilities/ Facilities/ Maintenance Management
    • Lead the team of resources responsible for the maintenance of the utilities, facilities, and production equipment maintenance to eliminate major breakdowns and ongoing system maintenance at 4-5% of the planned production time.
  • Collaborate with SLT, Regional, and Global resources to deliver QSC Excellence.
    • Continuous Improvement: Regularly look for manufacturing improvements to deliver site business needs.
  • Stakeholder Communication
    • Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and successes to Site Leader. This includes preparing and presenting reports, facilitating sub-team meetings, and ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and manage risks associated with EHS and Engineering. This includes conducting risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring all activities comply with relevant regulations and company policies.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical.
  • 10 years in Engineering, R&D, or Safety Leadership.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (E.g., NFPA 70, OSHA).
  • Strong leadership skills.
