We are looking for a future caregiver to take on the role of an EEG (Electroencephalogram) Technologist Apprentice within our world-class team of caregivers. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager, the EEG (Electroencephalogram) Technologist Apprentice functions as a trainee and follows established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the Epilepsy Center. The EEG Technologist Apprentice will receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring. The apprenticeship program will help build, develop, and train aspiring individuals into a successful healthcare career.

During the initial training period, the schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some weekend training required. The training period will last approximately 3 months. After the training period, a caregiver in this position works nights from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. with every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday) and holiday rotation requirements.

This position pays a flat rate of $20/hr.

The apprenticeship is a one-year program and will take place at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Candidates are encouraged to submit a current résumé that includes their work history with their application.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions, respiration monitors and EKG, select appropriate montages
  • Calibrate and adjusts equipment
  • Observe patients with video and digital recording equipment; ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly; check focus, lighting and microphone
  • Abstract relevant patient information from clinical record and obtains additional information by questioning.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • Knowledge of physical and biological sciences normally attained through high school course work with emphasis in those areas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one month of hire
  • Six months of direct patient care experience or one year post-secondary education

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Physical Requirements:

  • A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC< normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying 50 pounds
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients, i.e. pushing beds, carts and wheelchairs.
  • Ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
