Global Technical Solutions in Puerto Rico is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CO-OP student to support our Technical Publications team. This role provides hands-on experience in technical writing, documentation development, and aerospace/defense publication standards. The CO-OP student will work under the guidance of experienced Technical Writers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to help transform complex engineering information into clear, user-friendly technical documentation.

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, is a leader in advanced aerospace and defense solutions. Through this CO-OP opportunity, students will contribute to meaningful projects while learning how technical documentation supports critical systems used by the U.S. warfighter and global customers. Candidates must reside in Puerto Rico during the CO-OP period.

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run May/June- December (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).  This position will hybrid at the Aguadilla site.

What You Will Do:

  • Plan, lays-out, and revises detailed part, assembly, and installation ECAD drawings from basic layouts, references, and schematics.
  • Complete details of major layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices using computer aided design systems.
  • Prepare complete production detail drawings/models.
  • Responsible for design and documentation of new or modified Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs) or Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs)
  • Help review engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and software/hardware documentation under supervision.
  • Apply established documentation standards, templates, and procedures to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Participate in document reviews and incorporate feedback from team members and stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparing outlines, updates, and basic project tracking information.
  • Learn and apply industry documentation standards and best practices (e.g., implified Technical English, ATA, S1000D, where applicable).

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience reading and understanding assembly drawings, circuit card schematics, and assembly instructions
  • Knowledge of Printed Circuit Design (PCD) or related tools such as Mentor Graphics, Zuken, Valor, etc.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques
  • Experience evaluating engineering processes and providing recommendations to increase efficiency
  • Knowledge in Power Electronics is a plus.
