Job Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing AEP’s Digital Transmission Line Model (DTLM). The DTLM is the central repository and source of record for PLS-CADD as-built files for AEP’s Transmission Line Assets. Coordinates cross functionally to ensure alignment with other disciplines. Supports the region engineering teams as required. Works with the team to provide solutions to requested transmission line questions made by various AEP business units. Provide engineering support as needed for the operation and maintenance of system Transmission lines. Keep owner's records and provide required reports for regulatory and compliance requirements. Ideal candidates should have scoping, design, engineering, and material procurement experience with large electrical transmission line design projects, or on similarly complex design and construction projects and an understanding of the PLS-CADD suite of programs.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Plan, organize, supervise and otherwise manage the Digital Transmission Line Model. Effectively utilize engineering consultants as required to accomplish work. Work managed includes external requirements of customers and joint ventures as required.

  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and governance of the AEP Digital Transmission Line Model (DTLM), which is the central repository and source of record for PLS-CADD as-built files for AEP’s Transmission Line Assets.

  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and implementation of the standards associated to the DTLM, including processes, procedures, and best practices.

  • Mentor team members on various subjects including, but not limited to DTLM processes and procedures, TLE basic principles, and AEP Safety and Culture.

  • Identify new DTLM collaboration points with other business units and collaborate with these groups to maximize the DTLM data usage and value.

  • Provide technical consultation and support as required consistent with internal expertise and organizational responsibilities. This includes providing analyses and evaluations in support of research and development, planning, operations and maintenance, and other activities as assigned.

  • Interact and effectively communicate with Right of Way groups, Project Management, Construction management, Station/PCE counterparts, and Operating Company staff to assure business unit and corporate goals are successfully met. Represent AEP at meetings with the public and governmental entities related to existing facilities and the implementation of new transmission improvements.

  • Support the annual development of the capital forecast pertaining to AEP transmission lines in support of corporate and business unit strategy, in a manner which effectively organizes and addresses customer and public projects, planned system improvements, equipment failures, facilities rehabilitation, and other capital work.

  • Maintain awareness of current Industry practices and participate in external committees and groups as required. Utilize and adapt this knowledge to best practices to be used on AEP system work.

  • Ensure that all team members have the software, tools, IS support, etc. needed for completing projects in accordance with standards and corporate objectives.

  • Clearly define performance expectations. Review and reward job performance within the organization to align individual performance with business goals. Administer effective job performance review and merit salary programs. Develop employee skills as required for workload, help employees to reach their potential and establish plans to set and achieve challenging career goals.

What We're Looking For:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electrical and Computer, Civil, or Mechanical   Engineering, or an equivalent of Engineering Technology.

Experience: Minimum of ten (10 ) years of electric utility experience, including five (5) years in a transmission environment. 

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

Registration as a Professional Engineer in any state of the U. S. is required

*VP or above may waive the ABET Accreditation and/or PE Requirement

Compensation Range:

$155,761.00 - $202,490.50
