As a Dosimetrist in the Radiation Oncology Department, you will utilize computer-aided technology to create radiation treatment plans, calculate radiation doses and dose distributions and assist in setting up complex treatments. Your work ensures patients have the best treatment options for their unique diagnosis and individual needs to support the best possible outcomes. On this team, you will work alongside a mentor for ongoing support and easy integration into the team and have the chance to work a flexible, hybrid schedule. There are various opportunities to enhance your skills each day in this role and move into other roles such as Senior Dosimetrist.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM – 4:30PM, with a 40% work-from-home schedule.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Design plans for radiation treatment by conferring with the attending radiation oncologist.
Obtain final plan approval from the attending radiation oncologist and submit the approved plan to a medical physicist for review.
Calculate the values of necessary parameters (e.g., monitor unit, gantry angle, MLC settings, etc.) to deliver the prescribed radiation dose and dose distributions and may calculate special dose measurements (e.g., TLD in-vivo measurements).
Bill for calculations, plans and custom MLC per patient according to department and CCF policy and procedures.
Supervise complex treatment set ups and special case setups in the CT simulator.
Prepare all technical documentation required for treatment set up and record completion.
Review patient treatment records for weekly checks.
Participate in department quality assurance meetings, initiatives and implementation of initiatives, including general CCF quality improvements.
Participate in department and professional education and training, department meetings, peer review and chart rounds.
Assist section leader in training and implementation of new modalities and procedures.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's Degree in Science, Mathematics or Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university
Supplemental training leading toward the CMD certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board
Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board within 48 months of hire
Completion of a well-regarded training program
Knowledge of simulation processes and treatment planning paradigms (e.g., forward planning and IMRT planning, brachytherapy planning, in-vivo dosimetric measurements, and verify and record systems)
Ability to use sophisticated computer and software, analytical thinking and manual dexterity
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity and the ability to participate in assisting patients on and off treatment couches.
Requires standing, sitting and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
