The Position

Domain Architect - Diagnostics R&D

The Domain Architect – Diagnostics R&D is a senior-level, key position within the Strategy, Portfolio & Governance Enterprise Architecture Business Partnering Functions team. This position plays a critical role between the Strategy, Portfolio & Governance (SPG) organization and the Diagnostics R&D function. Reporting directly to the Head of Enterprise Architecture Business Partnering Functions with a dotted line to the Head of Dia RDT for DIA R&D, you will champion our enterprise architecture practices while deeply understanding the unique complexities of the Diagnostics R&D environment.

Crucially, in our federated Roche Digital Technology (RDT) model, you will act as the principal orchestrator of the Diagnostics R&D architecture network. By leading this network—which includes yourself alongside all domain and solution architects embedded directly within the Diagnostics R&D organization—you will drive architecture governance and strategy formulation, ensure enterprise coherence, and translate business goals into adaptable, future-ready roadmaps.

Description of the Area

The Enterprise Architecture Business Partnering Functions area serves as the strategic architectural point of contact for business domain leaders, fostering collaboration to align applications, business capabilities, and information assets with technology solutions. For the Diagnostics R&D domain, this involves deeply integrating with teams such as DIA R&D Labs, DIA R&D Computational Science and Engineering, DIA R&D Instrumentation, DIA Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, and DIA Portfolio & Project Management to drive efficiency and innovation with end-to-end accountability. This role ensures that the bridge between SPG’s enterprise vision and Diagnostics R&D’s operational execution is seamless, collaborative, and highly effective.

The Opportunity:

  • You will act as the strategic liaison between SPG EA and Diagnostics R&D, partnering with leadership to align business priorities with multi-year roadmaps.

  • You lead the Diagnostics R&D architecture network, shaping shared strategic priorities and enabling architects to execute while maintaining enterprise alignment.

  • You provide leadership for architecture governance activities, overseeing deliverables and technology guardrails to ensure security and resilience.

  • You drive the success of large, critical technology programs by translating strategy into actionable, transformative initiatives that deliver business value.

  • You develop and maintain core architecture artifacts, including Capability Maps and Target-State Architectures, using the standard RDT toolchain.

  • You partner with Portfolio Management to embed architectural insights into investment decisions, maximizing platform reuse and managing technical debt.

  • You monitor emerging technology trends and evaluate vendors to ensure the Diagnostics R&D architecture remains innovative and future-ready.

  • You influence a complex, federated RDT model, balancing enterprise coherence with the agility required for local operational execution.

Who you are:

  • You hold a Master’s degree and bring 7+ years of experience in IT and enterprise architecture, specifically within complex, matrixed, or federated global organizations.

  • You possess deep domain experience in Diagnostics R&D, with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, clinical, and engineering processes—from computational science and instrumentation to dry & wet laboratory operations—that drive diagnostics innovation.

  • You are a visionary architect capable of designing target-state architectures and capability roadmaps that evolve alongside business needs, utilizing frameworks like TOGAF as a reference for trade-off analysis rather than a rigid set of rules.

  • You are a cloud-native expert, proficient in AWS ecosystems, microservices, and event-driven patterns, with practical experience building multi-tenant scientific platforms and modern data lakehouse architectures (streaming and batch pipelines, data lineage and observability across heterogeneous scientific data sources).

  • You balance compliance with agility, navigating regulatory landscapes (such as IEC 62304, 21 CFR Part 11, and GxP) by implementing robust architecture without defaulting to heavyweight, restrictive processes.

  • You drive the future of AI in Life Sciences, with a sophisticated understanding of AI/ML platform orchestration and emerging agentic patterns (MCP, A2A) to automate and enhance scientific workflows accounting for a human-in-the-loop design.

  • You bridge the gap between hardware and software, possessing the technical fluency to integrate edge-to-cloud telemetry and instrument data acquisition across the OT/IT boundary.

  • You are a master of application portfolio strategy, skilled at mapping dependencies and sequencing the decommissioning of legacy systems to ensure business continuity during digital transformations.

  • You excel at governing through influence, leading federated networks of architects and inspiring diverse partners to align with a unified voice without the need for direct reporting lines.

  • You are a trusted advisor to senior leadership, combining executive presence with storytelling to translate complex architectural concepts into strategic narratives that guide high-level decision-making.

What you get:

  • Salary range: 23 300 - 43 300 PLN gross based on the employment contract.

  • Annual bonus payment based on your performance.

  • Dedicated training budget (training, certifications, conferences, diversified career paths etc.).

  • Recharge Fridays (2 Fridays off per quarter available).

  • Take time Program (up to 3 months of leave to use for any purpose).

  • Vacation subsidy available.

  • Flex Location (possibility to perform our work from different places in the world for a certain period of time).

  • Take Time for Charity (additional paid leave of maximum 2 weeks to engage in the charity action of your choice).

  • Private healthcare (LuxMed packages), group life insurance (UNUM) and Multisport.

  • Stock share purchase additions.

  • Yearly sales of company laptops and cars and many more!
