Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This role ensures the integrity of RBC’s Large Commercial Loan Book through end-to-end collateral verification and documentation oversight. As a Document Verification and Securities Officer, you’ll collaborate with Corporate Client Group (CCG) and Large Commercial teams to validate legal enforceability of loan agreements, mitigate risks, and rectify deficiencies. Your precision directly safeguards the Bank’s reputation and financial stability, as errors could lead to material losses. Success demands meticulous attention to compliance, policy adherence, and cross-functional partnership—making this ideal for detail-oriented professionals passionate about risk management in high-value commercial lending.

What will you do?

  • Verify Complex Loan Documentation: Handle day-to-day verification of intricate bilateral facilities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor Documentation & Security: Track receipt of all required credit documents and collateral for loan transactions.
  • Ensure Compliance: Validate documentation against loan agreements, policies, and legal requirements (e.g., PPSA, Quebec Civil Code, UCC).
  • Manage Security Registrations: Oversee proper registration of collateral in relevant registries (PPSA, Land Titles) and track via DMS.
  • Conduct Corporate Searches: Review and verify registrations, renewals, and corporate searches within set timelines.
  • Perform Two-Touch Reviews: Act as a verification officer for documentation prepared by other teams.
  • Resolve Out-of-Order Cases: Report and follow up on missing documentation with internal teams, agent banks, and law firms.
  • Uphold Client Service Standards: Establish benchmarks for complex transactions, resolve escalations, and ensure adherence to SLAs/CSCs.
  • Manage Operational Risk: Adhere to delegated authorities, RBC risk policies, and compliance standards while prioritizing accuracy and client experience.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify process inefficiencies, champion cross-skilling, and foster innovation to enhance client outcomes and team performance.

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • Undergraduate Degree and 1 -2 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of credit and legal documentation (e.g. Loan Agreements, security documents)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and ACBS
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, judgment, flexibility and dependability.
  • Ability to respond effectively to requests from participants especially for accommodations which fall outside the parameters of the Credit Agreement
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Nice-to-have:

  • Fluency in French (spoken and written) is considered a strong asset
  • Understanding of Business Law and North American non-negotiable security registration requirements (including PPSA, Bank Act, Quebec Civil Code & UCC) and North American loan documentation and security
