Summary

Responsible for the efficient and effective coordination of durable medical equipment services within the assigned clinic(s). This role involves overseeing the procurement, distribution, maintenance, and documentation of durable medical equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and facilitating communication between healthcare providers, patients, and equipment suppliers.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of durable medical equipment

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all durable medical equipment, including tracking usage and ensuring proper documentation

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for medical equipment documentation

  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding the proper use, maintenance, and safety of durable medical equipment

  • Conduct regular audits of equipment records to identify and rectify discrepancies

  • Assist in the development and management of the budget for durable medical equipment services

  • Maintains an accurate, relevant record of patient care and patient contact per visit and per telephone

  • Collects and processes all point of care, lab, and pathology samples per CFVH policy

  • Performs quality and safety checks on all waived testing equipment and supplies per CFVHS policies

  • Administers and records treatments, dressing changes, medications, and therapies under the direction and order of the LIP

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising the quality of patient care

  • Assists clerk/receptionist with ICD and CPT coding, input to computer for billing, insurance, and QA purposes

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Medical assistant certification from an approved program required

Work Experience

  • 1 year of relevant experience in durable medical equipment within the clinic setting required

  • 1 year clinical experience in an outpatient clinical setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to maintain patients’ rights, confidentiality, dignity, and well-being

  • Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to see, hear, read

  • Manual ability to use office and clinical equipment

  • Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting

  • Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material

BLS - American Heart Association
