Job Summary
Under direct supervision, completes the assigned daily work including maintaining and repairing fuel storage and distribution systems. May explain instructions and documentation to plan work activities. Help coordinate movement of materials and equipment to work locations and set up work sites. Completes and reviews records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up activities. Job may require moderate to heavy lifting. Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- The Fuels Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs fuel storage and distribution systems, using hand and power tools and testing instruments,
- Inspects fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges, (such as distribution lines, float gauges, piping valves, pumps, and roof sumps)
- Monitors and maintains the amount of fuel in the tanks of a fuel farm. Performs usage calculations and requests service time and amount for tank filling
- inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment, lubricates and repacks valves; lubricates pumps, replaces gaskets, seals and corrects pumping equipment misalignment, and cleans strainers and filters.
- Prepares and checks receiving or shipping documents. Visually inspects samples of fuel and checks gravity and flashpoint. Gauges tanks for water, temperature, and fuel level
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on terminal systems.
- This mechanic services water separators, checks meters for correct delivery and calibration, overhauls system components such as pressure regulating valves and excess valves, disassembles, adjusts, aligns, and calibrates gauges and meters or replaces them, removes and installs equipment such as filters and piping to modify system or repair and replace system component.
- Other Duties include cleaning fuel tanks and distribution lines, removing corrosion and repainting surfaces, overhauling vacuum and pressure vents, floating roof seals, hangers, and roof sumps.
- Ensuring that AHA/TSTI are taken every day to each shift.
Basic Qualifications
- Must have commercial or military experience in maintaining fuel bulk storage and distribution systems.
- American Petroleum Institute Certification (API-510) would be a plus.
- 3+ years’ experience as a retail petroleum service technician.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Must possess a passport book (not a passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity and 4 blank visa/stamp pages.
- You must hold a valid driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity.
