Major Duties:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of merchandising strategies and new business initiatives across all division categories for the MCX worldwide. Ensures Buying Teams are delivering ¿best in class¿ assortments for all categories, guaranteeing assortments are clustered appropriately by demographic. Drives and controls merchandise financial plans both pre-season and in-store to ensure all financial goals and in-stock metrics are achieved. Ensures assortment plans and planograms are effectively developed and implemented using appropriate analytics to support business decisions. Directs price comparison programs to evaluate MCX pricing and marketing strategies against other retailers. Ensures that pricing strategies align not only with financial goals but also reflect the appropriate value relationship for MCX patrons. Responsible for the oversight and process of replenishment in coordination with field activities, buyers and replenishment team to ensure stock levels are maintained. Identifies problem areas and makes recommendations for improvement. Ensures development and effective execution of promotional and seasonal programs and offerings through the Buying Team. Aligns the sales planning and promotional activities with corporate strategy. Monitors effectiveness of advertising through sales performance and customer response. Coordinates with Visual Merchandise and store support staff to ensure merchandise presentation strategies are communicated effectively and executed appropriately at the command level. Keeps abreast of current industry/market trends and applies them appropriately to the overall merchandise strategy. Ensure merchandise programs and developed to satisfy customer demand and are responsive to local needs. Coordinates corporate meetings with vendors as necessary and requested by the field. Participates in trade shows and maintains liaison with commercial counterparts in retail sector, manufacturers, suppliers and professional associations. Develops external strategic alliances with business partners. Collaborates with other Military Buying organizations as appropriate. Coaches team to establish strong supplier relationships that create business advantages. Prioritizes people development within specific areas of responsibility. Develops and maintains positive and communicative working relationships with field commands as required. Works under the general supervision of the Branch Head- Merchandising, receiving assignments in the form of overall program objectives to be met and scope of support services to be provided. Performance is reviewed and demonstrated program knowledge, skills and abilities. Supervises the retail Buying Team to include assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and signing timecards, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Merchandise Management or other related field appropriate to the work of the position and four years of progressive experience which demonstrates in-depth professional knowledge of merchandising, buying, best practice procedures, vendor negotiations, replenishment methods, planning, implementing and ensuring proper inventory levels and stock turns, OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above, OR appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. Candidate will have excellent leadership and staff development experience. Must have demonstrated track record of problem solving and process improvement. Candidates must possess the ability to function in a collaborative manner with staff at all levels of the organization. Candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal presentation skills.
