The Distribution Manager is vital to all phases of distribution including daily truck routing (inter-company shuttles, trailer and bulk deliveries), monitoring delivery vehicle maintenance, recordkeeping, and driver safety oversight. The Distribution Manager is responsible for enhancing service excellence in a safe and efficient manner. You will provide mentorship to drivers and coordinate special requirements in partnership with the Plant Manager and shift leads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides mentorship and guidance to drivers regarding safe work habits.

  • Coordinates the availability of drivers and equipment, including all vehicle maintenance requirements, to ensure that adequate resources are available to meet distribution/customer needs.

  • Stewards distribution resources and enhances service response through balancing of daily routes and overall system optimization.

  • Provides safety and compliance training to meet Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety & Health Agency (OSHA), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Airgas organization-wide requirements.

  • Fosters continuous growth in daily distribution operations and promotes and supports distribution efficiency initiatives for the location, including demand leveling.

  • Develops, documents and trains employees on Standard Operating Processes (SOPs).

  • Reviews and processes daily all Department of Transportation (DOT) documentation; vehicle condition reports and drivers hours of service, route efficiency and completion.

  • Reviews incoming orders for accuracy and unusual requirements; communicates these for production planning.

  • Evaluates returned trips for paperwork accuracy and unfulfilled orders, and manages open orders for status and closure.

  • Prepares daily local and inter-branch delivery schedules for cylinders and bulk.

  • Prepares load sheets, delivery tickets and manifests, highlighting any critical customer requirements. Ideally, you ensure loads are accurate and complete.

  • Responds to inquiries from sales, customer service and branches regarding delivery status, capabilities and any emergency delivery requirements.

  • Collaborates on other duties and projects as assigned.

Are you a MATCH?

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in a distribution setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A College degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field is a plus.

  • Familiarity with truck routing and the shipping of hazardous materials.

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and FDA requirements.

  • Experience with SAP is highly valued.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

  • Proactive and well-organized with a strong eye for detail and a collaborative spirit.

  • A team-oriented contributor with a positive attitude and the ability to foster alignment across different departments.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly share technical procedures, safety rules, and maintenance instructions.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to nurture professional relationships effectively, even during times of complexity.

  • Strong analytical skills and a comfort with metrics; able to share insights effectively with all levels of the organization and our customers.

  • Practical math skills, including the ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.

  • Customer-focused and dedicated to interacting in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.

  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision, as well as peripheral perception and focus.

  • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 60 pounds and move more than 125 pounds using provided material handling equipment.

  • Capability for occasional walking, standing, bending, reaching, and repetitive motion.

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, and manual activities like tightening ratchet binders.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers/co-workers and remain alert to the work environment (including smelling/hearing gas leaks).

  • Minimal travel required; occasional weekend or on-call status to support the team.
