Leidos is seeking Distribution Designers to work in Denver, CO. The contract opportunity is to work with our team on the MYR Master Design Build contract. In this mission we are tasked with providing distribution design engineering for overhead and underground feeders across the client's distribution footprint. The successful Distribution Designer candidate will have an interest in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems may be in an OH, UG, or URD environment. Project work may include joint use make ready, and street light projects. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.
**This position requires the successful candidate to work for a contractor in a temp-to-perm format with the possibility of converting to a direct Leidos employee in approximately 6 months from the initial hire date.**
Project work will require performing engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.
Assignments may also include: preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements or calculating a customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).
Distribution Designer Responsibilities:
Duties may include work package development of overhead, underground residential distribution, and underground cable/conduit, field visits or field engineering of project requirements, identification of conflicting utilities, engineering and design calculations, and post-construction reviews.
Distribution Designer Required Education & Experience:
2-year technical degree or H.S. Diplomaw with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with STORMS, Katapult, ESRI, AutoCAD, PDS, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus
Familiarity with Pole Loading software (DDS, O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman, LD Field)
Proven ability to communicate with clients and project teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with projects in 3rd party make-ready design with electric utility distribution design being a plus.
Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with proposed work for each 3rd party carrier.
Ability to read and seek information through various client supplied documents/standards.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
Strong understanding of mathematics.
