Distinguished Senior Technology Fellow                 

Job Summary:

The Distinguished Senior Technology Fellow is a Vice President-level individual contributor recognized for exceptional technical leadership, innovation, and strategic impact. This role is reserved for those who have made industry-defining contributions and continue to shape the future of technology within and beyond the organization.

The Distinguished Senior Technology leader will be responsible for driving innovation and strategic advancement of premium and emerging melting processes, with a particular focus on achieving step-change advancements in metal yield and cleanliness. This role provides visionary leadership to position the company as a global leader in premium melting, leveraging innovation and process excellence to deliver a distinct competitive advantage over industry competitors. The Director will champion the strategic development and deployment of advanced melting technologies—including Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), and Electroslag Remelting (ESR)—while aggressively pursuing and integrating emerging melting methods that elevate product quality, sustainability, and manufacturing efficiency across a broad spectrum of alloy systems for aerospace, defense, medical and energy applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

Technology Leadership

  • Lead the strategic development and execution of advanced melting technologies at lab, pilot and production scale.
  • Align melting operations with company goals in innovation, quality, efficiency, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Advanced Melting Technology Development

  • Provide visionary leadership to deliver step-change improvements in existing melting technologies and equipment, relentlessly pursuing advancements in metal yield and cleanliness that set new industry benchmarks.
  • Drive innovation by evaluating, implementing, and scaling next generation melting methods, while maximizing the potential of current assets and processes.
  • Collaborate boldly with R&D and engineering teams to pilot and accelerate transformative melting solutions across diverse alloy families, ensuring the company’s global leadership in premium melting and a distinct competitive advantage over competitors.

Process Optimization

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in VIM, VAR, ESR, and other melting processes significantly improving the current norm.
  • Apply advanced process control, automation, and data analytics to improve yield, reduce defects, and enhance traceability.

Alloy System Expertise

  • Apply deep knowledge of various alloy systems, including nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys, cobalt-based alloys, specialty steels and refractory metals
  • Guide alloy-specific melting strategies to ensure metallurgical integrity and performance.

Digital Integration

  • Champion the use of digital tools for process monitoring, traceability, and lifecycle management.
  • Support integration of melting data into PLM, MES, and ERP systems.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, or related field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • 25+ years of experience in specialty alloy melting, with deep expertise in premium and emerging melting technologies.
  • Proven track record of leading manufacturing technology initiatives and process innovation.
  • Strong understanding of solidification science, defect control, and alloy development.
  • Experience with digital manufacturing tools and data-driven process optimization.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-performance materials sectors.

Additional Requirements:

  • Process control experience, especially in high integrity melting environments.
  • Working knowledge with Industry 4.0 technologies, digital thread, and smart manufacturing tools.
  • Mentor a high-performing team of melting metallurgists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, safety, and technical excellence.
