Responsibilities

  • General support of litigation matters for Brazil, reporting directly to the Legal Director, including:
    • Handle general litigation, pre-litigation claims, consumer claims and all related matters;
    • Handle all aspects of litigation matters including facts analysis, strategy definition, case management of large portfolio, validation of motions from the volume portfolio, always bearing in mind the support of the companies' local and global strategies/
    • Close cooperation and synergy with the team in charge of fact-finding and evidence-gathering, always aware of improvement opportunities;
    • Handle consumer and banking disputes, dealing with complaints in accordance with applicable laws and the companies’ policies;
    • Supervise and partner with outside counsel to ensure that all aspects of the companies' legal representation are of the highest quality, including the day-to-day running of matters, overall strategy, written work, and oral advocacy;
    • Map and mitigate potential litigation, regulatory or reputational risks;
    • Proactively find improvement opportunities on existing flows and policies to reduce manual time and administrative tasks in handling the litigation portfolio;
    • Close the loop by taking a deeper and critical look at outside counsels’ performance as well as decisions and bringing improvement opportunities to business units;
    • Be aware of high-exposure and sensitive cases arising from the mass portfolio that may expose Nubank to higher risks and timely escalate them to your manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (at least 4 years post-qualification experience);
  • Postgraduate degree in Civil Law, Procedural Law, Consumer Law, Corporate Law or related fields desirable;
  • Enrolled before the Brazilian Bar (OAB);
  • Experience in civil and consumer litigation (either in law firms or as in-house counsel), including in loco work with Judges and Justices;
  • Desirable knowledge in banking and financial services related matters (e.g., insurance, credit card, loans);
  • Knowledge of lawsuits management systems (Elaw, quicksight);
  • Data-driven thinking, ability to deal with large amounts of data and taking informed decisions;
  • Objective communication;
  • Holistic thinking;
  • Proactive and curious attitude;
  • Creative problem-solving;
  • Time management and organizational skills, ability to work autonomously and define priorities among multitasks;
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced company;
