First Student is Hiring a Dispatcher Serving South Umpqua, Riddle & Days Creek School Districts!

The Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching all buses, managing routing and scheduling, ensuring on-time performance of routes, and supporting drivers and monitors with day-to-day operational needs.

Dispatcher Responsibilities

  • Oversee routing, scheduling, and daily dispatch of buses
  • Maintain and adjust route coverage as needed to support service reliability
  • Counsel and coach drivers and monitors on frontline performance and service issues
  • Handle heavy phone and radio communication
  • Receive and resolve scheduling and driver concerns; escalate to Operations Supervisor/Contract Manager as needed
  • Serve as the primary communication liaison with contracted school districts
  • Support driver payroll activities, timekeeping, and related administrative tasks as needed
  • May assist with charter reservations or billing support
  • Provide real-time solutions to pick-up, drop-off, and service issues
  • Perform backup driver duties or clerical support when required
  • Complete special projects as assigned
  • Assist with day-to-day operational oversight

Dispatcher Experience & Skills Required

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Willingness to obtain a CDL (company-paid training provided)
  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines
  • Previous terminal operations, dispatch, or driver experience preferred
  • Computer literate
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical
    • DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason
