First Student is hiring a Dispatcher for our location supporting CREC Schools in East Hartford, CT.

In this role, you will oversee daily route operations, support drivers and monitors, and ensure reliable transportation service for students and families throughout the community.

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday – Friday - Second Shift: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

  • (Schedule subject to change based on operational needs)

  • Pay Range: $28.00 – $29.00 per hour, based on experience

Dispatcher Responsibilities

  • Oversee all routes and scheduling of buses

  • Monitor on-time performance and resolve service issues

  • Counsel and coach drivers and monitors

  • Handle heavy phone and radio traffic

  • Serve as primary communication liaison with CREC representatives

  • Address driver concerns and customer service inquiries

  • Assist with charter reservations, payroll support, or billing as needed

  • Provide solutions to pick-up and drop-off challenges

  • Complete special projects and support daily operational supervision

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and compliance

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3–5 years of dispatch, transportation, terminal operations, or related experience preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time constraints

  • Computer literate and comfortable with scheduling systems

  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason
