The Environment Health & Safety (EHS) lead is responsible for establishing the direction for the Kalamazoo site EHS programs and partnering with business lines to ensure:
Site programs fully comply with environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations, company policies and Global EHS standards; and written site programs are regularly reviewed and updated.
Timely evaluation and periodic review of the site operational EHS profile, to ensure application of effective controls
Training programs are established and maintained
Mechanisms are established to ensure proactive EHS assessment of the impact of change
Adequacy of professional EHS resources (colleagues and contracted resources) to support the site in management of EHS risk
Leaders and all colleagues are inspired to contribute in building an ownership culture for EHS at the site
Contributes to the continued effectiveness of the EHS programs across the broader Pfizer Global Supply Network contributing to technical EHS networks as appropriate; and in partnership with other risk management functions provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.
What You Will Achieve
Functions as member of the site Leadership Team providing strategic direction and leadership for the site.
Leads the EHS program at the site to:
minimize impact of operations on the environment
assure the health, and safety, of company employees, contractors, and visitors
assure effective incident response, including Emergency Preparedness & Response and Investigation
Ensures mechanisms are established to identify and manage EHS regulatory requirements that apply to site operations including preparation of impact assessments, permit applications, registrations, and certifications; preparation and review of routine and special reports; and oversight of routine inspections. Acts as the primary point of EHS contact for external / regulatory bodies
Ensures implementation and maintenance of EHS management systems that meet contemporary external and Pfizer internal EHS standards and enhance and continuously improve the EHS program at the site. Establishes and maintains self-assessment systems that periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the site EHS management system
Sets strategic direction for the site’s EHS program in line with the PGS Fundamental Value Proposition and site value proposition and objectives
Supports the site leadership in establishing short and long term EHS objectives for the site, to ensure personnel safety and minimization of environmental footprint. Establishes site EHS metrics, drives action plans and regularly publishes status updates
Collaboratively equips the site leadership team in establishing and maintaining an effective operating environment that facilitates EHS cultural growth
Integrates EHS risk assessment within business operations thereby assuring all initiatives at the site are conducted in a safe manner and in full compliance with OSHA, EPA and all other applicable regulating bodies
Manages, executes, and is accountable for the site EHS budget
Ensures all EHS functions, including Process Safety Management and Environmental Compliance, are adequately resourced and managed to maintain compliance with all applicable Company policies and government regulations and to meet contemporary standards. Develops and enhances the EHS team through effective organizational design, selection, development, training, and performance management of all staff.
Ensures delivery of in-sourced and outsourced EHS services at the site, including selection and management of properly licensed hazardous, biological and radioactive waste disposal firms
Partners with Engineering to develop and drive Environmental Sustainability plans, including waste, water and Greenhouse Gas reduction roadmaps for the site. Ensures effective processes are established to ensure EHS review of capital projects; such that risk reduction controls are included within the design and project execution
Develops relationships with above site stakeholders including Global Security, Global EHS, Business Continuity management, Global Occupational, Health & Wellness and EHS professionals within the Pfizer Community of Practice (COP), to ensure program alignment and leverage network resources
Performs other duties inherent to the position
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
B.S. in EHS related field, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline or the equivalent. M.S./M.P.H preferred.
Minimum of ten years of related post-graduate EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector.
Minimum of five years of managerial and leadership experience in directing staff professionals, preferably within EHS
Active membership in at least one relevant professional body, ideally with a formal continuous professional development requirement, desirable
Experience in a GMP environment
Thorough knowledge of federal EHS regulations and guidelines
Demonstrated commitment to Pfizer's Values
Proven track record of safety and environmental accomplishments and the ability to successfully drive and manage change
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Colleague must be able to manage emergency situations in a stressful environment. Able to use hearing, respiratory and eye protection is required.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $169,700.00 to $282,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
