The Private Equity Financing (PEF) team is part of CBA’s Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) business. The team plays a key role in originating, structuring and executing loans to fund Private Equity transactions across both the Institutional Bank and the Business Bank (Major Client Group). The core purpose of the team is to be the preferred provider of debt financing to Private Equity clients. This involves the provision of CBA balance sheet and/or underwriting of the total financing need of our clients for distribution to other banks/debt investors.
Do work that matters:
We have an opportunity at the Director/Associate Director level that will see you work with a team of professionals. You will be involved in the management and optimisation of the PEF portfolio across both IB&M and Business Bank’s (BB) as well as supporting the implementation of the Private Equity strategy.
Key tasks will include but not be limited to:
- Manage a large and diverse portfolio of leveraged finance transactions (including senior loans, unitranche and Term Loan B), in collaboration with the PEF origination team and relationship bankers;
- Develop a working relationship with Private Equity sponsors and management teams of portfolio assets;
- Work closely with the PEF origination team to manage amendments/consents/waivers on existing exposures;
- Assist with deal closing on new transactions;
- Provide portfolio insights and drive accountability for realisation of cross-sell revenues to maximise portfolio reporting;
- Lead policy and process improvement for leveraged finance transactions;
- Liaise with Line 1 and 2 Risk teams to ensure adherence to internal risk frameworks;
- Support review of overall financial performance for the PEF business;
- Monitor credit quality, covenant compliance, and performance metrics (Debt/EBITDA, ICR/FCCR, DSCR);
- Maintain deal comparable database;
- Support reporting of the PE portfolio to stakeholders; and
- Build strong relationships with PEF origination team and other internal teams (relationship management, risk, senior management, policy).
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Are committed candidates, seeking to build on a strong foundation developed in investment banking, a corporate or institutional bank or debt advisory firm. Further, you’ll bring;
- Experience in leveraged finance, acquisition finance or structured lending preferred
- Strong understanding of financial covenants, capital structures, and credit risk assessment
- Experience at a leading financial institution (Investment and Corporate Banking)
- Expertise in monitoring exposures and determining risk ratings
- Demonstrable history of effectively managing and engaging stakeholders in a matrix environment
- Drive process improvement and lead the strong risk management of the portfolio
- Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in structuring and executing loans. This could be in a client facing role or in a risk decisioning capacity
- Strong loan product knowledge to support execution of leverage finance loans
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem solving skills, as well as top notch communication, presentation and verbal reasoning skills
- High energy, motivated individual, able to operate at pace and without guidance and bring a growth mindset
