Director, Wholesale

HQ Full Time

We are seeking a visionary Director, Wholesale to architect the future of Madison Reed’s retail partnerships while executing the daily groundwork required to get there. This is not a maintenance role; it is a builder role for a critical thinker who refuses to wait for instructions.

You must be capable of toggling effortlessly between high-level 3–5 year planning and the immediate operational rigor required to drive results. In this role, you will not just design the roadmap; you will pave it. You will move beyond standard sales management to become a true strategic thought partner , responsible for interpreting complex market signals and personally driving the actions that ensure Madison Reed leads in the omnichannel beauty space.

The position reports to the SVP, Wholesale and is full time and remote, with up to 25% travel from home including but not limited to retailer visits, store manager shows, industry events, team meetings, Quarterly Business meetings, & company-sponsored events.

The base salary range for this position is between 150,000 and 155,000. At Madison Reed, we aim to pay competitively. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

About You:

  • You are an Agile Operator: You possess the unique ability to zoom out for strategic vision and zoom in for flawless execution. You manage the P&L with the rigor of a financial owner, meaning you are willing to do the heavy lifting yourself to ensure profitability.
  • You are a Strategic Architect: You don’t just hit this year’s number; you are already planning where the business needs to be in 3 to 5 years and building the bridge to get there.
  • You Lead with Critical Thinking: You look past the "what" to understand the "why," utilizing fact-based analysis to challenge assumptions.
  • You Act with Autonomy: You are proactive and entrepreneurial. You identify opportunities and risks before they are flagged, initiating action rather than waiting for direction.

Responsibilities:

Business Insights & Financial Critical Thinking

  • Hands-on Predictive Analysis: Elevate reporting from "what happened" to "what will happen". You will personally synthesize complex data points (retailer data, market trends) to forecast risks and opportunities quarters in advance.
  • Direct P&L Ownership: Take full fiscal ownership of the channel P&L. You will proactively manage margin mix, trade spend efficiency, and profitability yourself, rather than relying solely on finance support.
  • ROI Optimization: Conduct rigorous, independent analysis of marketing and promotional effectiveness to cut unproductive spend and double down on high-ROI activities.

Operational Excellence & Team Leadership

  • The "Strategy-to-Execution" Toggle: This role requires a seamless transition between presenting 3-year visions to the C-Suite and personally diving into the weeds of operational hurdles to unblock the team.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior team members to move beyond execution into strategic analysis by modeling what deep-dive analysis looks like.

Strategic Planning & Long-Range Vision

  • Architect the Roadmap: Develop and own the comprehensive 3–5 year strategic growth plan for wholesale channels , moving beyond annual budgeting to multi-year forecasting.
  • Market Share Acquisition: Design aggressive strategies to increase market share of the "box business" and drive brand penetration.
  • Innovation Strategy: Partner with Product and Merchandising to identify white-space opportunities for exclusive product development.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Executive Joint Business Planning (JBP): Lead high-level JBP negotiations with key retailers (Ulta, Walmart, Target, etc.), moving relationships from transactional interactions to strategic alliances.
  • Cross-Functional Drive: Act as the strategic quarterback, driving internal teams (Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing) to align on inventory modeling and demand planning.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 12+ years of progressive experience in Beauty or CPG, with at least 5 years in a strategic leadership capacity (vs. purely sales execution).
  • Tech Savvy & Hands-On Analysis: We require proficiency in advanced data tools (Looker, Excel, retailer portals). You must have the ability to build complex models yourself and interpret P&L nuances without relying on a team to crunch the numbers.
  • Strategic Acumen: Proven track record of building and executing multi-year strategic plans that resulted in significant revenue growth.
  • Retailer Relationships: Deeply established relationships with senior decision-makers at major beauty retailers (Ulta Beauty experience highly preferred).
  • Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to influence without authority across a matrixed organization.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
