This role is part of Alcon’s Upstream Global Marketing function, a team that helps provide access to products across all channels, including through stage-gate development, marketing and pricing strategies, launch planning, and lifecycle management. The Director, Vitreoretinal Instrumentation – Upstream is primarily responsible for leading complex projects to enhance outcomes and achieve strategic goals in surgical product and brand marketing. This role requires advanced strategic planning expertise, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive decisions across product portfolios, brand positioning, and market development initiatives.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Manage complex projects to optimize outcomes and make significant decisions within assigned project scope, ensuring milestones and strategic objectives are met
  • Develop and implement core brand strategies, including overseeing product portfolios, positioning, and target product profiles
  • Support strategic pricing decisions and lifecycle management across the vitreoretinal instrumentation portfolio
  • Develop and manage claims matrices, ensuring accuracy, regulatory alignment, and commercial relevance
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects impacting product launches and market positioning, maintaining clarity of priorities and accountability across teams
  • Collaborate with local markets to guide creative campaign deployment and ensure global strategies translate effectively at the regional level
  • Apply advanced industry expertise and strategic planning to shape upstream marketing decisions that drive long-term portfolio growth

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Influence high-level strategic decisions related to brand strategy and product positioning across cross-functional leadership teams
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners including R&D, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Finance to align on portfolio priorities
  • Demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills to lead teams and stakeholders through complex, ambiguous initiatives

What You Will Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
