The Director, UKG Workforce Management (WFM) provides strategic, operational, and technical leadership for the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of UKG WFM solutions across the health system. This role is accountable for delivering a scalable, compliant, and user-centered workforce management platform that supports clinical operations, accurate payroll, labor optimization, and workforce engagement. The Director, UKG WFM, serves as the enterprise owner of UKG Workforce Management, partnering with executive leadership, clinical operations, HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, Labor Relations, and Compliance to align workforce technology with patient care priorities, labor strategy, and regulatory requirements.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Define and execute the enterprise UKG WFM strategy aligned with organizational goals, clinical operations, and workforce transformation initiatives
  • Serve as the product owner for UKG WFM, including Timekeeping, Scheduling, Advanced Scheduling, Clinical Scheduling Extensions (CSE), EZCall, Integrations, Data Hub, and Analytics
  • Develop and manage the multi-year UKG WFM roadmap, prioritizing enhancements, regulatory changes, and operational needs
  • Provide executive-level communication, status reporting, and risk management
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of WFM managers, analysts, developers, and support resources
  • Establish clear roles, career paths, and competency models
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Lead large-scale UKG WFM implementations, expansions, upgrades, and acquisitions across hospitals, clinics, and ancillary entities
  • Ensure disciplined program governance, change management, and adoption strategies
  • Ensure implementations are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
  • Own the end-to-end operational support model for UKG WFM, including service levels, escalation paths, and system reliability
  • Ensure accurate time, scheduling, and pay outcomes in partnership with Payroll and Finance
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation, and standardization across WFM processes
  • Oversee release management, testing, and production stability
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, healthcare-specific regulations, and union agreements
  • Support nurse staffing rules, skill mix requirements, and acuity-based staffing models
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Internal Audit on audits, investigations, and risk mitigation
  • Establish controls supporting HIPAA and data security requirements
  • Champion data-driven workforce decision-making using UKG Data Hub and Analytics
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to deliver labor productivity, staffing efficiency, and cost optimization insights
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, and alignment with enterprise analytics platforms
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, Nursing Administration, Clinical Operations, HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT
  • Balance enterprise standards with operational flexibility for clinical leaders
  • Facilitate governance forums to manage prioritization, policy alignment, and system changes

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare/Payroll Administration, Business, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Workforce Management, Time & Scheduling, Payroll/HR Technology, or related domains
  • 5+ years of hands-on leadership experience with UKG WFM
  • Experience supporting unionized environments and complex labor agreements

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Proven success leading enterprise-scale implementations in large health systems
  • Strong understanding of clinical operations, nurse scheduling, and staffing environments
  • Demonstrated success in labor optimization, analytics, and workforce transformation initiatives
  • Strategic vision and execution
  • Deep functional and technical knowledge of UKG WFM
  • Change management and stakeholder influence
  • Data-driven decision-making mindset

 

 

Pay Range:

$170,000.00 USD - $205,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
