Chief of Staff to the SVP of Product Design & Packaging

Overview:

The Chief of Staff will play a pivotal role in supporting the SVP of Product Design & Packaging, providing strategic advisory, leadership coordination, and driving alignment across key partners to ensure the successful execution of key initiatives within Owned Brands. This role requires a proactive, strategic thinker who can drive the near-term execution and long-term direction of Product Design & Packaging by defining and driving the strategic agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Advisory

  • Act as a key advisor to the SVP of Product Design & Packaging, providing insights and analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • In collaboration with the SVP, shape the near-term execution and long-term direction of Owned Brands, specifically for Product Design & Packaging, by defining and driving the strategic goals for Product Design & Packaging.

Leadership Coordination:

  • Facilitate alignment among senior leadership on strategic initiatives, ensuring coherence in vision and execution across cross functional partners.
  • Establish a reliable, sustainable operating cadence across Owned Brands leadership, Product Design & Packaging senior leadership team, and CFT partnerships.
  • Coordinate strategic meetings, documentation, and deliverables to ensure alignment and progress on key initiatives.

Project Management:

  • Oversee at a high-level critical projects and initiatives from conception through to completion, ensuring they align with Product Design & Packaging goals and are delivered efficiently.

Communication Management

  • Enhance internal communication within the leadership team, Product Design & Packaging team and the CFT, ensuring clarity and consistency in messaging.
  • Prepare and manage the SVP’s agenda for key meetings, ensuring optimal use of time and focus on strategic matters.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as a liaison between the SVP and internal/external stakeholders, managing relationships and strategic partnerships.

Issue Resolution:

  • Identify and address operational and strategic issues before they escalate, collaborating with stakeholders to provide solutions to challenges affecting Product Design & Packaging business.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Monitor performance against strategic goals, facilitating regular reviews and adjustments to strategies as necessary.

Innovation:

  • Encourage and facilitate innovation across Product Design & Packaging, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.

Talent Management:

  • Partner closely with HR Partner to support all talent routines, ensuring the team meets business strategic goals.

Change Management:

  • Lead and support change management initiatives to ensure smooth transitions and buy-in across key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement crisis management plans to mitigate risks and ensure continuity of operations during unforeseen events.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Leverage data analytics to provide actionable insights and drive evidence-based decision-making processes.

Budget Oversight:

  • Assist in the development and management of the budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and efficient allocation of resources.

Speaking Engagement & Communications Support

  • Partner with leader to organize, draft, and prepare materials for speaking engagements, classes, and presentations.
  • Manage logistics, gather content, and ensure messaging aligns with broader communications strategy - expanding as external engagement grows.

About you:

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of experience, preferably in Merchandising, Design, or similar
  • Strategic Thinker - Demonstrated ability to think strategically, with a clear understanding of how to position the organization for long-term success.
  • Effective Communicator - Possesses exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong Leader- Exhibits strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to inspire, influence, and align teams towards common goals
  • Adaptability - Shows a high degree of adaptability, able to navigate and manage change effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Problem-Solver- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently, with a focus on delivering practical and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborative- Fosters a collaborative environment, working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
  • Relationship/Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to influence an alignment of internal partners at the senior level. Extensive experience managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders and strategic partners
  • Team leadership (roundtable) commitment to DE&I
  • Demonstrated ability to operationalize strategies across stakeholder groups
  • Strategic Planning - Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution, with a track record of driving organizational change and achieving business objectives.
  • Change Management: Experience leading and supporting change management initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and stakeholder buy-in.
  • Passion for Design: Demonstrate a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for the field of Design - both as a discipline and in collaboration with designers.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
