What you'll be doing

You will be joining the Enterprise Technology team within CIBC. As the Director,  Strategic Solution Design, you will be reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Solution Design, the Director, Strategic Solution Design (Individual Contributor) is accountable for leading end-to-end solution design for strategic initiatives across the Financial Crimes & Enterprise Risk Technology portfolio, with a primary focus on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Operational Risk Management (ORM). This role partners with business and technology stakeholders to translate risk and regulatory requirements into implementable, secure, resilient, and compliant technology designs. The Director ensures alignment to CIBC enterprise architecture, data and security standards, and delivery governance, while driving re-use and integration across domains (including AML, cybersecurity, and core protection as required).

How you’ll Succeed

 

  • Solution Design Leadership: Contribute to the development and communication of cross-portfolio technology roadmaps for FC&ERT, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Lead solution design for assigned FC&ERT programs and initiatives from intake through delivery and rollout. Translate business strategies, regulatory drivers, and risk requirements into solution options, recommendations, and target-state designs. Drive design decisions with focus on operational resilience, scalability, supportability, and total cost of ownership. Identify opportunities to rationalize overlapping capabilities, controls, and data flows across FC&ERT.
  • Portfolio Integration & Domain Alignment. Partner across AML, cybersecurity, core protection, and enterprise risk stakeholders to ensure designs are integrated, reusable, and consistent with target-state direction. Ensure assigned solution designs align with enterprise roadmaps (data, identity, integration, cloud, DevSecOps) and avoid technology fragmentation. Contribute to cross-portfolio architecture discussions and help maintain a consistent target view (patterns, principles, and shared capabilities).
  • Solution & Architecture Governance: Ensure designs incorporate privacy-by-design, security-by-design, and responsible data/AI considerations, where applicable. Support design reviews, challenge sessions, and approvals through appropriate governance forums; proactively surface exceptions, risks, and required decisions.
  • Regulatory & Risk Management Enablement: Ensure assigned solution designs address regulatory, compliance, and risk management standards, partnering with Compliance, Audit, Legal, Privacy, and Technology Risk as required. Evaluate RegTech solutions and recommend adoption/integration approaches to strengthen compliance and regulatory reporting capabilities.
  • Modernization, Innovation & Continuous Improvement. Identify opportunities to modernize legacy ERM/ORM assets (re-platforming, simplification, automation, cloud enablement) while meeting control requirements. Evaluate fit-for-purpose use of analytics/automation (and AI/ML where appropriate) to improve risk insights, workflow efficiency, and control effectiveness. Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to ERM/ORM and regulated risk domains; bring recommendations forward.
  • Stakeholder, Vendor & Relationship Management: Build strong working relationships with business and technology leaders to align on outcomes, trade-offs, sequencing, and dependencies. Support vendor/partner evaluation and due diligence; contribute to technical requirements, integration approach, risk assessment, and service measures (including SLA inputs where applicable). Surface and manage key risks, dependencies, and decision points (including third-party considerations) to enable timely leadership decisions.

Who you are

  • You can demonstration strong experience in solution architecture / solution design for large-scale initiatives, ideally within risk, compliance, financial crimes, or other regulated financial services domains. Practical knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, integration patterns, data management concepts (e.g., lineage/quality), and modern engineering practices (e.g., APIs, DevSecOps). Experience designing solutions across cloud/hybrid environments with focus on scalability, resiliency, and regulatory/compliance alignment. Working knowledge of ERM/ORM concepts (e.g., risk taxonomy, controls, issues management, operational loss/events, KRI/KPI, RCSA) and the ability to translate them into technology capabilities, workflow, and data requirements. Experience applying analytics and automation (and AI/ML where appropriate) to improve risk insights, control effectiveness, and operational efficiency. Practical expertise in integration design, data flows/lineage, and designing secure, privacy-aware, and auditable solutions (e.g., access controls, logging/monitoring, traceability). Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to drive alignment across business, technology, and governance groups without direct authority. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; able to structure ambiguous problems into clear options, trade-offs, and decisions. Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and manage change in a complex, matrixed environment.
