We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Senior Physical Natural Gas Trader to join our team in Calgary. In this role, you will be responsible for executing profitable trading strategies in the physical natural gas markets, with a primary focus on cash trading and the optimization of storage and transportation assets. The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of generating consistent P&L, a deep understanding of Canadian natural gas fundamentals, and strong relationships within the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cash Trading: Execute daily physical natural gas trading strategies in the spot/cash markets to capture market volatility and arbitrage opportunities.
  • Asset Monetization: Actively manage, optimize, and monetize the company's natural gas storage and transportation positions to maximize value.   
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with financial traders, schedulers, and originators to align physical and financial strategies and ensure smooth execution of physical deliveries.  Proactively pitch opportunities to acquire new storage, transport, and physical gas assets that align with our strategic growth.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze fundamental supply and demand data, pipeline flows, weather forecasts, and pricing trends to inform and adjust trading positions.
  • Risk Management: Monitor and manage daily trading exposures, ensuring all activities remain strictly within established risk limits and corporate compliance policies.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with producers, end-users, pipeline operators, and other market participants to facilitate deal flow and gather market intelligence.
     

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7 to 10+ years of direct, hands-on experience in physical natural gas trading.
  • Market Knowledge: Deep, working knowledge of North American natural gas markets, specifically Western Canadian (AECO) dynamics, regional pipeline networks, and storage facilities.
  • Track Record: Documented history of generating positive P&L through physical cash trading and asset optimization.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical abilities, with proficiency in using market data platforms and trading software.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or a related quantitative field.
  • Soft Skills: High-stress tolerance, decisive decision-making capabilities, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.
