About this role

APAC Institutional Client Business (ICB) is responsible for understanding the overall strategic, investment and risk management needs of the largest Institutions and translating these into commercial opportunities for our business. The team works with a wide range of clients including sovereign wealth funds, public and corporate pension funds, insurers, and banks, to offer the full range of BlackRock products and solutions.

We partner with clients to build bespoke solutions that meet their specific needs, backed by our market-leading in-house technology and risk analytics. The team is based across APAC in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Australia, South Korea and Japan, and works closely with colleagues around the globe to deliver the best of BlackRock to APAC Institutional investors.

This Director role is a senior commercial position responsible for leading and deepening relationships with key institutional clients, driving new business origination, and delivering sustained growth across public markets, ETFs, alternatives, and technology‑enabled solutions. The role requires strong judgment, commercial instinct, and the ability to operate independently with senior client stakeholders while collaborating closely across investment, product, and solutions teams globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Own senior relationships with strategic institutional clients in Southeast Asia, acting as a trusted advisor across investment strategy, portfolio construction and long-term objectives.
  • Originate and execute new business opportunities across asset classes and solutions, from idea generation through implementation.
  • Drive long term partnerships through strategic client relationship management by developing and executing multi-year client strategies aligning client evolving needs with BlackRock’s global investment and solution capabilities.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial judgment in prioritising opportunities, structuring solutions and navigating complex client decision making processes.
  • Develop best sales development practices to achieve commercial success for BlackRock’s institutional business in Southeast Asia by collaborating with stakeholders across BlackRock platform.
  • Keep abreast of the implications of regulatory, accounting and capital frameworks on investment, product development and risk management decisions made by institution clients.
  • Contribute thought leadership and client insights to internal stakeholders, helping shape business strategy, product development and market initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members contributing to talent development and a strong, inclusive team culture.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • At least 10 relevant years of experience in institutional client coverage, business development or related roles, preferably in a high quality, multi-product asset management firm, investment bank, consultancy, or comparable institutional environment.
  • Proven track record of managing senior institutional relationships and strong knowledge of key institutional allocators in Southeast Asia, including Official Institutions and Sovereign Wealth Funds, Pensions and Family Offices.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, portfolio construction concepts and institutional governance frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills, ability to articulate sophisticated ideas clearly and build influential relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to identify and resolve challenging situations, exercise sensible judgment and handle complex client requirements independently.
  • Proficiency in additional Asian languages preferred.
