As Director, Global Custody Applications Development, you’ll take the helm of a dynamic organization at a pivotal moment, guiding specialized development teams through a bold journey of modernization, innovation, and operational excellence. This isn’t just a leadership role; it’s a change-maker’s mandate to reshape how technology empowers RBC’s Global Custody business in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
What will you do?
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead the transition to a Persistent Team Model, grouping BA, BSA/Dev, and QA resources under the same umbrella to enhance collaboration and accountability.
- Drive the adoption of a QE model with a focus on shift-left testing, improving delivery quality and efficiency.
- Champion GenAI adoption as a major element of the mandate, exploring and scaling solutions to enhance productivity and capability.
Business Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted technology partner and strategic advisor to Global Custody Business product leads and Business Operations leadership.
- Translate business requirements into technology roadmaps; manage trade-offs between innovation, stability, and cost.
- Collaborate with Business Operations on operational efficiency improvements, process optimization, and technology-enabled capability building.
Delivery & Operational Excellence
- Ensure reliable support and continuous enhancement of existing mission-critical Global Custody applications and technologies across Mainframe, .NET, iSeries RPG, Java, Angular, Python/PySpark, and vendor platforms.
- Establish SLAs, monitor performance metrics, and drive accountability for delivery commitments.
- Manage complex stakeholder relationships across Asset Services business units and RBC IS Technology.
- Balance operational stability with innovation initiatives.
Technology Modernization & Innovation
- Spearhead adoption and integration of DevOps practices and capabilities across teams.
- Lead technology roadmap evolution, making informed decisions about modernization priorities.
- Build engineering practices that support both legacy system stability and cloud-native development.
Organizational Transformation
- Navigate the transition to the Persistent Team Model, addressing structural, cultural, and process changes required.
- Drive best practices adoption across diverse technology stacks and team structures.
- Build collaborative mechanisms that break silos between specialized domain teams.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-haves:
- Minimum 10+ years in software development, with 5 years in director-level or equivalent leadership roles leading technical organizations through significant changes.
- Experience managing multiple technology stacks, platforms, and specialized teams.
- Proven success with technology transformation initiatives (modernization, tooling, processes, culture).
- Experience establishing and maintaining strong business-technology partnerships; demonstrated success influencing without direct authority.
- Exposure to Gen AI opportunities and DevOps practices (hands-on experience preferred).
Nice-to-haves:
- Banking or highly regulated industry experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of or hands-on experience within Asset Services, Custody domains, or financial services operations (Global Custody, trade settlement, or fund servicing).
