Job Summary
Directors of Software Development are responsible for leading and overseeing multiple software development teams, including several software development managers, to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of software projects. In the CDD Development organization, this means providing strategic and operational leadership for the CDD engineering teams that build and enhance high‑volume customer communication solutions for Output Solutions clients. The Director plays a critical role in leading, managing, and directing teams to create high‑quality software products and platform capabilities that meet business goals and client commitments, combining deep technical understanding, strong leadership, and a strategic mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Lead a multi‑team software development organization (including several managers) within the CDD Engineering Organization, setting clear objectives and expectations aligned to business and client outcomes.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high‑performing engineering talent across global, distributed teams (e.g., US, CALA and India), including performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across all CDD development teams.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, and model CSG leadership behaviors and values.
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement software development strategies and roadmaps for the CDD platform and services, aligned with the CDD Delivery & Process priorities.
- Translate CDD business and product & services strategy into tactical plans, prioritized backlogs, and measurable outcomes for engineering teams (e.g., new feature delivery, modernization initiatives, technical debt reduction).
- Partner closely with Product Management, CDD Delivery & Process, Output Solutions Operations, Architecture, and Client Delivery teams to plan and prioritize work that balances new capabilities, regulatory requirements, client change‑requests, and platform reliability.
- Ensure that engineering plans support the needs of multiple high‑volume clients, including ongoing change‑management and continuous improvement work new and acquired platforms.
Delivery & Execution
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of CDD software projects and releases, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to agreed quality and service levels.
- Ensure teams follow Agile and DevOps best practices, including iterative delivery, continuous integration, automated testing, and continuous deployment where appropriate.
- Drive predictable, transparent delivery for:
- Client implementations and custom communication solutions
- Ongoing client change‑management requests
- Platform and tooling enhancements for CDD Technology and Services
- Monitor and communicate program and portfolio status, risks, dependencies, and milestones to senior technology and business stakeholders.
- Act as the senior escalation point for critical production and client issues in the CDD domain, coordinating cross‑functional response and long‑term corrective actions.
Engineering Excellence & Quality
- Establish and uphold engineering standards, best practices, and guidelines for CDD development (coding standards, architecture patterns, performance, security, observability, documentation).
- Ensure robust quality assurance across the CDD codebase, including automated tests, code reviews, non‑functional testing, and production‑readiness checks.
- Drive continuous improvements in system reliability, performance, scalability, and security for high‑volume batch and online customer communications.
- Promote reuse of common services, components, and patterns across CDD teams to improve maintainability and speed of delivery.
Budget & Resource Management
- Manage and allocate budgets and resources (people, tools, infrastructure) across the CDD development portfolio, optimizing utilization while meeting delivery and support commitments.
- Own capacity planning and workforce mix that enables efficient and effective delivery to organizational priorities.
- Contribute to annual planning and forecasting for headcount, vendor spend, tooling, and platform investments.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Build strong, trust‑based relationships with:
- CDD Services and CDD Delivery & Process leadership
- CDD product and operations teams
- Client‑facing and implementation teams supporting Output Solutions customers
- Communicate technical direction, roadmap, and delivery progress in a clear, business‑aligned way to executive and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Represent CDD Development in cross‑functional governance forums, audits, and client discussions as required.
Risk Management & Governance
- Identify, assess, and mitigate delivery, technical, operational, and regulatory risks across the CDD development portfolio.
- Ensure compliance with relevant security, data protection, audit, and quality requirements for Output Solutions platforms and client communications.
- Define and use governance frameworks, metrics, and reporting (e.g., delivery health, quality, stability, throughput, client SLA adherence) to track performance and drive improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of increasing managerial experience leading software development teams, including direct management of managers and multi‑team organizations.
- Demonstrated success owning delivery of complex, multi‑team software solutions in an enterprise or SaaS environment, ideally in customer communications, billing, output management, or similar high‑volume transactional domains.
- Strong background in software development (languages, architectures, patterns) and modern Agile/DevOps/AI practices.
- Proven leadership and people‑management skills: building, scaling, and developing high‑performing, distributed engineering teams.
- Experience with budget management, resource planning, and portfolio prioritization for a multi‑team software organization.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, including at senior business and technology leadership levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading engineering teams in a global, distributed environment (e.g., US, CALA and India) within a matrixed organization.
- Domain experience in Customer Communication Management (CCM), print and digital output solutions, statement/bill production, or similar communication design and delivery platforms.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), microservices architectures, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong track record of driving engineering transformation (e.g., test automation, platform modernization, standardization, DevOps adoption).

Position Pay Range:
This range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to geographical location and experience.
$145,003.36-$232,000.53
This role is eligible for a bonus opportunity.
