Job Summary
Lead, develop, negotiate, recommend and implement the insurance requirements of the Company by identifying, analyzing and measuring potential loss exposure and implementing optimal insurance solutions; lead the development, implementation and management of an insurance captive; lead all activities to effectively and timely collect insurance claims; manage a large and well established surety program; develop and present materials both internally and externally; maintain strong relationships with the underwriter and broker community; manage and develop junior members of team; and perform other tasks as required.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, develop, negotiate, recommend and implement all insurance coverages for the Company, including property, casualty, cyber, directors and officers, and nuclear coverage lines
- Develop, implement, and manage a captive insurance program for the Company
- Partner with our brokers to timely collect insurance proceeds in the event of a claim
- Procure insurance for new development projects and M&A activity
- Perform due diligence reviews of potential acquisitions from a risk and insurance perspective and provide insurance cost estimates as required
- Maintain healthy relationships with underwriting and broker community, updating management on current trends and challenges
- Coordinate with Operations and Engineering to minimize adverse impacts of financial losses and implement recommendations from insurers
- Work with Planning to establish an annual insurance budget
- Review and recommend changes in the Company’s contracts to minimize liabilities from both an insurance and contractual perspective
- Formulate and modify strategy for the Company’s insurance program
- Manage and optimize the Company’s surety bond program and provide Certificates of Insurance as required
- Manage and develop junior members and/or risk and insurance interns
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
- College degree or certifications with specialization in Risk and Insurance
- 10+ Year's experience in Risk and Insurance
- Experience with captive formation or management
- Knowledge of a wide range of insurance policies and worldwide markets
- Proficiency in risk management practices and understanding risk financing programs
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Experience leading projects and managing people
- Understanding of theories of legal liabilities and versed in State and Federal laws affecting insurance and claims preferred
- Results-focused and ability to work independently to drive projects to completion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Key Metrics
- Strengthen the organization’s expertise and readiness to assess risk and implement insurance solutions
- Establish a standardized process for evaluating insurance coverage amounts and improve the quality of strategic decision-making
- Achieve optimal results on all lines of coverage by individual program renewal dates
- Implement a captive program within the first twelve month
- Optimize collection proceeds from previous incidents
- Minimize the cost of collateral requirements to support surety and insurance programs
- Ensure timely delivery on requests for contract review and requests for Certificates of Insurance (“COI”)
- Develop the insurance team to expand team capacity to support growing activity level and accelerate responsiveness
