What You’ll Be Doing

As Director, Relationship Management – APAC Banks , CIBC Capital Markets, you will be based in Hong Kong and responsible for managing and expanding CIBC’s relationships with global bank clients across the Asia-Pacific region. You will act as the primary entry point for APAC-based banks into CIBC’s Capital Markets and Transaction Banking offerings, supporting their needs across payments, cash management, trade finance, and capital markets products. This is a fast-paced, client-facing role requiring strategic thinking, relationship-building, and a strong understanding of the APAC banking landscape.

As a member of Global Transaction Banking (GTB), CIBC Capital Markets, you will:

  • Act as the APAC relationship manager for global bank clients, serving as the primary contact for CIBC’s Capital Markets product offering in the region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to understand clients’ transaction banking and capital markets requirements, anticipating future needs.
  • Develop and execute regional and country strategies and account plans to drive growth and profitability.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (Legal, Risk, AML, Global Money Operations) and product specialists (Payments, Alternative Solutions Group, Trade Finance, Global Cash Management, Specialized Credit Group, Debt Capital Markets, etc.) to deliver coordinated client solutions.
  • Host client meetings and presentations, both in-person and virtually, using advanced technology.
  • Represent CIBC at APAC industry events, conferences, and community associations.

  • Relationship Management & Business Development: You will excel at building lasting client partnerships, identifying growth opportunities, and delivering tailored financial solutions that drive both client satisfaction and organizational success.
  • Relationship Building & Sales: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with global bank clients, identifying and pursuing sales opportunities for payments, deposits, and capital markets products.
    • Originate, structure, and close new business opportunities focused on deposit growth and transaction banking solutions for FI and corporate clients.
    • Use a growth and sales-oriented approach to consistently achieve and exceed deposit and revenue targets within the APAC region.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work with product partners to ensure a globally coordinated client approach, expanding CIBC’s revenue base through joint meetings and strategic account planning.
  • Risk Management: Mitigate risks by working closely with internal risk and compliance teams, ensuring adherence to AML, KYC, and credit underwriting standards.
  • Effective Communication: Deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of APAC banks, acting as an escalation point for complex client challenges.
  • Leadership: Coach and oversee Associates/Analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Market Presence: Network with bank partners at regional business and industry events to enhance CIBC’s visibility and reputation in the APAC market.

Industry & Product Knowledge

  • Maintain expert knowledge of CIBC’s full suite of transaction banking and capital markets products, including payments, cash management, trade finance, and global markets.
  • Stay current on financial services industry trends, financial markets, and the economic and political environment in APAC countries.
  • Monitor competitive information and market strategies, representing CIBC at relevant industry and payment conferences.

Who You Are

  • Industry Knowledge and Experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in Capital Markets with strong product knowledge and high level of professionalism. Strong negotiating skills, deal origination and closing as well as values prospecting. Strong knowledge of the transactional services business, including international payments and cash management. Strong knowledge of capital markets products. Highly developed product development skills. Knowledge of Correspondent Banking and Trade Finance is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated success in growing deposit balances and sales within financial institutions and corporate banking segments, ideally in the Asia Pacific market.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing growth strategies for FI clients, with strong understanding of regional banking needs and opportunities.
  • Education. Bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related field. Graduate degree/professional designation is an asset (MBA, CA, CFA).
  • Languages. You’re fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other APAC languages are assets.
