Job Description:
Lead regulatory compliance and digital innovation at a pivotal moment.
As Director of Registrations & Licensing (R&L) within Sun Life’s Retail Advice and Solutions business (RA&S), you'll shape the future of advisor onboarding and regulatory operations. You will drive strategic transformation impacting key business outcomes while building and leading a high-performing team that's central to Sun Life's wealth and insurance businesses. This is an owner's role where your vision directly impacts efficiency, risk management, and advisor experience.
What will you do?
Strategic Leadership:
Refresh the mandate and strategy for the R&L function, aligning with business roadmaps to accelerate advisor onboarding and minimize operational risk
Regulatory Authority
Serve as Chief Authorized Firm Representative (ACFR), overseeing all firm registration processes, regulatory reporting, and regulatory engagements across investment and mutual fund dealer operations and insurance
Digital Transformation
Champion the modernization of the R&L function through technology and process innovation, enhancing advisor experience and operational efficiency
Stakeholder Leadership
Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Compliance, Operations, Distribution, and regulators to ensure seamless integration and strategic alignment
Team Excellence
Lead, develop, and empower a diverse team through change, fostering a culture of performance, inclusion, and innovation
Regulatory Compliance
Oversee advisor registrations, employee certifications, Continuing Education training, outside activities reporting, and all CIRO-registered dealer obligations
What do you need to Succeed?
Minimum 10 years in financial services with at least 5 years in wealth management
Proven track record leading teams through complex organizational change
Deep expertise in CIRO and OSC regulatory requirements for investment dealers
Prior experience in registration, corporate secretariate, or CIRO reporting functions (insurance licensing a plus)
Familiarity with OSFI-regulated environments and three lines of defense governance models

Essential Qualifications
University degree
Canadian Securities Course OR CFA Level 1+ OR Conduct and Practices Handbook preferred
Investment Dealer Supervisor Course (formerly Branch Manager's Course) preferred
Strong regulatory knowledge and demonstrated compliance expertise
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
