PitchBook's Institutional Research Group is a provider of research services to private market investors, advisors, and market participants. The group provides investment strategy, fund performance, and industry research through a differentiated, framework-driven approach. In addition, the group provides custom research and data analysis support to subscribing clients.
PitchBook’s Director, Quantitative Research provides strategic oversight of a high performing team that leverages proprietary private market and macroeconomic data to develop differentiated models, metrics, and insights that power our industry leading coverage of private equity, M&A, venture capital, and alternatives portfolio management. As a leader, you will set research direction, mentor and develop analytical talent, and partner cross functionally to translate complex data into trusted, decision ready intelligence relied upon by PitchBook’s clients.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of quantitative and funds research analysts, fostering a high-performance culture of collaboration, accountability, and analytical excellence
- Set and own the research strategy, aligning priorities with PitchBook’s business objectives and ensuring the delivery of differentiated, actionable insights across private markets
- Provide strategic oversight of advanced quantitative models, methodologies, and analytical frameworks used to evaluate private market data, fund performance, and market trends
- Establish standards and best practices for data integrity, governance, and accessibility, ensuring the reliability and effective use of large, complex datasets across the research organization
- Drive the end-to-end integration of quantitative models into the PitchBook platform, working closely with Product and Development to deliver high-impact, scalable analytics to clients
- Oversee the quality, clarity, and consistency of research outputs, ensuring complex analysis is translated into compelling, decision ready narratives for clients and stakeholders
- Serve as a senior research leader with clients and internal partners, presenting insights, addressing research needs, and collaborating cross functionally with editorial, product, and commercial teams
- Build and sustain a strong talent pipeline by mentoring leaders, developing analytical capabilities, and keeping the team at the forefront of market developments and quantitative best practices
- Establish and uphold rigorous research governance, quality controls, and ethical standards to maintain trust, credibility, and analytical integrity
- Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
- Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field required; advanced degree or professional credential (MBA, CFA, PhD, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- 12+ years of experience in quantitative research, data science, or a related analytical discipline, including at least 7 years in people leadership roles
- Deep expertise in private markets and alternative investments is required
- Demonstrated technical leadership in the design, evaluation, and governance of sophisticated quantitative models and analytical frameworks, with a strong understanding of private equity, venture capital, and other alternative asset classes
- Extensive experience working with modern data and analytics tooling (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Excel), with the ability to set standards for scalable analysis, modeling, and visualization across teams (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms)
- Proven ability to oversee rigorous research programs and ensure the delivery of high quality, insight driven research outputs, including market analysis, commentary, and thought leadership, while maintaining clarity for executive, client, and market audiences
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear strategic narratives and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally
- Strong organizational and operational leadership capabilities, including prioritization across multiple initiatives, resource planning, and execution in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Established track record of building, mentoring, and developing high performing research and technical teams, with a focus on succession planning and long-term capability building
- Demonstrated commitment to research integrity, governance, and ethical standards, ensuring trust, credibility, and consistency across all analytical outputs
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Compensation
- Annual base salary: $185,000-$225,000
- Target annual bonus percentage: 20%

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
