Director, Project Management & Reporting

Under the direction of the Vice President of Enterprise Portfolio Management, the Director of Project Management & Reporting leads the strategy, governance, delivery, and performance oversight of operational projects across the organization. This role ensures consistent project management practices, develops and manages project reporting and dashboards, and partners closely with departmental leaders to drive alignment with business priorities. Leads and mentors project managers, manages resource capacity, builds strong stakeholder relationships, and promotes a clear approach to project execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Establishes and enforces project management standards, tools, and governance processes for all projects, ensuring consistency and disciplined execution. Directs project scoping, prioritization, and compliance processes while driving ongoing refinement of the overall project management framework. Collaborates proactively with IT, other PMO groups, and stakeholders to align practices and ensure cross-functional support for successful project delivery.
2.    Manages the execution and overall health of active projects, ensuring delivery aligns with approved scope, timelines, financial targets, and quality expectations. Strengthens project performance through structured lessons learned and retrospective practices. Produces clear, timely reporting and insight tools that highlight project progress, key risks, milestone achievement, performance indicators, and resource demand.
3.    Leads and mentors a team of project managers, fostering high performance, professional growth, and strong project delivery capability. Provides coaching, training, and development opportunities while shaping a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
4.    Leads the development and enhancement of project management tools, templates, and systems to improve consistency and efficiency. Identifies opportunities to automate reporting, streamline workflows, and strengthen project data quality.
5.    Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Organizational Leadership or Public Administration required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the field of Project Management required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of Supervisory Experience.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Experience in hospitality, casino operations, or Tribal Government is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of project, program, and portfolio management methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid frameworks.
  • Understanding of change management principles and organizational transformation approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Highly developed coaching and team development skills, fostering high-performance PM teams.
  • Advanced skills in project and portfolio management systems (e.g., Wrike, Smartsheet, MS Project, Power BI).
  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to convey complex information to executives and diverse stakeholders.
  • Must have experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality due to access to confidential information. 
  • Leads with influence, not with authority. 
  • Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
  • Lean Green Belt certification preferred.
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENT

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
