Job Description

The Director, Project Management - Facilities Development & Real Estate, is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of major capital projects—including ground-up hospital construction—while providing critical support to the Facilities Development and Real Estate functions at El Camino Hospital. Reporting to the Vice President of Facilities Services, the Director manages complex healthcare construction initiatives and collaborates closely with the Sr. Director of Facilities Development and Real Estate to ensure alignment with the hospital’s strategic, operational, and property management goals. This position will be based in Mountain View or Los Gatos, California.

Job Description

The Director, Project Management - Facilities Development & Real Estate, is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of major capital projects—including ground-up hospital construction—while providing critical support to the Facilities Development and Real Estate functions at El Camino Hospital. Reporting to the Vice President of Facilities Services, the Director manages complex healthcare construction initiatives and collaborates closely with the Sr. Director of Facilities Development and Real Estate to ensure alignment with the hospital’s strategic, operational, and property management goals. This position will be based in Mountain View or Los Gatos, California.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, design, permitting, and construction of major hospital facilities and capital projects from concept through completion.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with California healthcare construction standards, including OSHPD/HCAi regulations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for assigned projects.
  • Oversee procurement, contract negotiations, and vendor performance for construction projects.
  • Partner with local authorities, regulatory agencies, and hospital leadership to ensure timely approvals and alignment.
  • Monitor construction progress, quality control, safety compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership and governing bodies on project status, challenges, and milestones.
  • Foster a collaborative project culture emphasizing transparency, accountability, and shared success.
    • Development and maintenance of the hospital’s facilities master plan.
    • Facilities management information systems, including inventory, space allocation, real estate, leases, project requests, and tracking.
    • Annual capital budgeting for facilities projects and equipment replacement/acquisition requests.
    • Property acquisition, disposal, and leasing activities as needed.
    • Interfacing with departments, consultants, contractors, and regulatory officials on facilities development matters.
  • Integrate technical facility knowledge with strategic initiatives to ensure projects address critical organizational needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing large-scale healthcare projects in California.
  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHPD/HCAi processes and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with cash flow forecasting, budget management, and capital planning.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead complex teams and navigate high-stakes project environments.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and construction technologies.

Preferred Credentials:

  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable building practices.
  • Experience with BIM and integrated project delivery (IPD) models.
  • Experience with Trimble Unity Construct (formerly eBuilder).

Salary Range:

$82.07 - $123.11 USD Hourly
