Director, Private Equity Fund Tax

Position Summary

The Private Equity Fund Tax Director is a senior tax leadership role responsible for setting and executing the tax strategy for private equity funds and related investment structures. This role provides technical leadership across fund formation, transactions, ongoing operations, and investor reporting, while serving as a strategic partner to investment, finance, legal, and operations teams. The Director ensures tax efficiency, regulatory compliance, and effective oversight of internal and external tax resources.

Core Responsibilities

  • Leads private equity fund tax strategy and execution, balancing effective tax risk management with business objectives. Serves as the primary decision‑maker for private equity fund tax processes, including policy development, operating model design, and oversight of the tax control environment.
  • Provides tax leadership and advisory support across fund formation, structuring, financing, acquisitions, restructurings, and exit transactions. Manages and oversees external tax advisors, fund administrators, and other service providers responsible for tax compliance and consulting activities.
  • Oversees tax reporting for private equity funds and related entities, including partnership returns and investor tax reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable tax laws and reporting requirements across all relevant jurisdictions. Leads and supports tax due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions, identifying tax risks, structuring considerations, and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitors tax risk, manages audits and tax authority inquiries, and implements policies and controls to support a strong governance framework. Remains current on regulatory and legislative developments impacting private equity taxation and evaluates business implications.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Accounting or Finance degree preferred. Graduate degree preferred.

  • CPA preferred.
