Director, Philanthropy – Elmhurst Foundation

Reporting to the Executive Director, Foundation (Elmhurst), the Director, Philanthropy is responsible for raising major gifts (five- to seven-figures) from individuals, grateful patients, and family foundations for the Foundation. The candidate will be responsible for prospect identification and qualification in partnership with Prospect Development team members and physician partners and the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects in support of Endeavor Health’s clinical and patient care mission. This role is crucial to Endeavor Health’s philanthropic growth strategy as we set our sights to deliver the highest quality primary and subspecialty care, advance innovative research, and invest in our people, all the while sustaining our deep commitment to our local communities. We are seeking an experienced, relationship-focused, results-driven, data smart major gifts fundraiser with a track record of success in growing portfolios and giving while being a thoughtful and kind colleague

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Director, Philanthropy

  • Location: Elmhurst, IL

  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, during normal business hours

  • Required Travel: Local travel as necessary to cultivate, solicit or steward key prospects & donors.

What you will do:

  • Work with Prospect Development team members, physician partners, and other internal colleagues on vetting prospects to qualify and build pipeline.

  • Proactively move donors and prospects through the fundraising cycle. Partner with physicians and leaders in assigned clinical areas to cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors in fundraising priority areas.

  • Activate Board members and other volunteers in peer-to-peer fundraising by supporting their outreach, engagement, and solicitation efforts. Focus on increasing the number of six- and seven-figure gifts.

  • Engage donors and prospects in strategic events to cultivate and steward relationships. For assigned event(s), own the event strategy and collaborate closely with events colleagues to showcase top priorities and talent, draw the right audience, strengthen awareness of impact, and advance solicitations.

  • Engage in best-in-class fundraising practices, grounded in data intelligence and donor-centered approaches, including filing contact reports, consistently entering and updating proposal data, participating in prospect strategy discussions, and staying current on philanthropic trends.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, required. Master’s degree, preferred.

  • Certification: Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), preferred

  • Experience: 7+ years of demonstrated success in progressively senior fundraising roles, preferably in major gifts within healthcare/medical research/academic medical or other similarly complex institutions.

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:

    • Proven track record of closing five- and six-figure gifts

    • Strategic thinker and collaborative partner with a bias for action and results

    • Strong judgment and emotional intelligence; able to navigate a highly matrixed organization with excellent, proactive communication and consultation

    • Confident and comfortable working in high-level stakeholder settings with donors/prospects, physicians, and leaders; effectively supports Board members and volunteers to drive peer-to-peer fundraising

    • Deploy best practices in donor development, along with an understanding of emerging trends in philanthropy and fundraising

    • Donor-centric mindset and approach, with strong commitment to customer service

    • Exceptional written, presentation, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds

    • Exceptional project management skills: fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements

    • Comfortable, flexible and adaptable in an entrepreneurial setting and building new programs in an emerging and changing environment

    • Manage confidential information with discretion and tact

    • Full suite of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

    • Salesforce NPSP preferred, or other experience with CRMs
