The following position is to join our RTX Corporate team:

As part of the RTX People Strategy, the RTX HRLT has decided to invest in the HR function's internal org design capabilities. As one of the first steps to do so, we need to hire a subject matter expert in this area who can set up an Org Design sub-domain and drive its five-year growth strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Provide enterprise leadership through the design and development of a new, structured approach to RTX Org Design. This work includes defining and operationalizing an RTX OD governance model, defining RTX OD standards, services, service delivery models, key processes, and consistent measurement approaches. Once defined, this leader will be responsible for driving continued maturity across the model, ensuring the resources and support reflect evolving best practices and internal customer needs.
  • Develop and execute the RTX HR Org Design capability-building strategy, including the deployment of a comprehensive training program.
  • Enable strategic investments with approved external vendors, when necessary. Counsel internal customers on recommended vendors to engage and ensure vendor engagements align to RTX Org Design standards.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop RTX Org Design criteria, aligned to our business’ operating model, industry standards and go-to-market requirements.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and internal consultant to the RTX HR Leadership Team, senior HR and business leaders and relevant external vendors on a wide range of complex and unique org design efforts worldwide (including organizational assessments and diagnostics, structure redesigns, operating model shifts, work movement, business process redesign efforts, etc.)
  • Act as a thought leader on best practices in org design, effectiveness, and transformation, ensuring RTX stays ahead of evolving needs.
  • This role will set the strategic direction for org design excellence at RTX. It will define, operationalize, and expand the critical capability of Org Design at RTX. As such, it's a highly strategic role, while also demanding operational and tactical action from the leader to drive the strategy.
  • This role will have ownership of and accountability for the Org Design sub-domain for the enterprise. They will make decisions about the strategic direction of the work, the CORE configuration for the sub-domain's services and processes, and how best to drive process maturity. Decisions made will be informed by the role's subject matter expertise, in addition to internal VOC inputs and MFA.
  • Designing processes around employee needs streamlines workflows, reducing friction, and increasing overall productivity.
  • This leader's communication must be strategic and audience specific.  This role will be responsible for a range of communication needs, such as
  • (1) conveyance and explanation (partnering, collaborating, and presenting RTX SLT and senior leadership teams, the HRLT, senior HR leaders, etc. on organizational assessments, structural recommendations, executive summaries with implications, trade-offs, and ROI)
  • (2) influence (gaining HR and business leader alignment on both the overall org design excellence strategy, while providing indirect, matrixed leadership to org design and effectiveness practitioners across all BUs; influencing without authority across multiple functions and business lines).
  • (3) negotiation (with vendors and colleagues across functions).
  • (4) facilitation (of strategic OD discussions, engagements, and executive workshops).
  • (5) operational (driving execution, monitor progress, and ensure coordination between SLT, BU/SBU leaders, HRLT, during restructuring, scaling, and/or transformation initiatives.
  • (6) strategic alignment comms (to ensure organizational structure and changes support business goals w/ superior ability to communicate the way behind org design changes, explain how new structures enable growth, agility, innovation, and execution
  • Primary audiences include internal business leaders, business and HR leaders across functions and RTX BUs; external vendors.
  • In setting up the new Org Design sub-domain, communication with these audiences will focus on strategic alignment, capability development, and earning trust through rigorous commitment to designing and executing services, resources and processes that our internal customers need most.
  • In developing RTX design criteria for our defense and commercial businesses, communication will focus on aligning interests, compromise, and healthy debate, in service of developing clear guidance for practical use.
  • In leading specific Org Design engagements, communication will focus on skillfully navigating conflicting objectives, facilitating healthy debate and guiding teams toward optimal business decisions.
  • In partnering to execute structural changes and operationalize the design, communication will focus on aligning around common goals and interests, navigating conflicting objectives and contradicting interests, driving accountability for successful execution, etc.)

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Development, Business, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field.
  • Deep org design subject matter expertise - developed through both academic endeavors and a successful track record of practical application.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in organizational design, transformation, HR strategy, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate with senior executives on a regular basis. Prior experience navigating large global companies (ideally, Fortune 500 Companies). 
  • Prior experience leading enterprise-level org design and effectiveness initiatives in a complex, highly matrixed, global organization (consulting experience applies).
  • Prior experience in facilitation and consulting, with the ability to influence and build trust across senior levels of the organization.
  • Ability to translate strategy into structure, process, and people implications.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data and organizational diagnostics to drive insights and recommendations.
  • Experience working within or in partnership with HR Communities of Expertise and HR Business Partners.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience leading an OD team or center of excellence for a multinational organization.
  • Org Design, coaching and/or change management certifications.

The salary range for this role is 176,000 USD - 352,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
