Job Description:
The Director of Student Health Services provides strategic vision, leadership, direction, and operational oversight of all medical services while maintaining an active primary care clinical practice within Student Health Services. This role is responsible for the clinical supervision and professional development of a multidisciplinary team delivering care to a student body of 11,000 undergraduates, graduate and medical students with a global demographic. The Director is charged with maintaining a high standard of practice using evidence-based, inclusive, and population-health frameworks. The person in this role ensures clinical excellence across over 35,000 annual clinical encounters. Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Student Health and Wellness, the Director is a key member of the Student Health and Wellness leadership team, championing the integration of clinical medical services with mental health and health promotion/wellness services to nurture holistic, “whole student” care. The Director supervises the Staff Physicians, the Director of Sports Medicine, the Physician Assistants, the Associate Clinical Director and the Director of Pharmacy.
The Director develops, implements, and evaluates clinical protocols, practice guidelines, and educational initiatives to support continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards. Additionally, the Director is responsible for clinical oversight of the Student Health Pharmacy and provides direct supervision, guidance, and professional development support to the Pharmacy Director.
As the key leader of Student Health Services, the Director collaborates with partners in the Division of Campus Life in support of student health, wellbeing, and academic success, participates in institutional committees, and actively contributes to the broader educational mission of the University.
Job Qualifications
Required qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited medical school.
M.D. or D.O. licensure (or eligibility) in the state of Rhode Island with updated DEA certificate.
Board certification in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Med-Peds Residency.
Minimum of seven years primary care medicine experience post residency.
Minimum of three years supervisory experience.
Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to navigate complex institutional environments.
Demonstrated leadership, supervisory or administrative experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Adolescent medicine fellowship or experience in adolescent medicine and/or college health preferred.
Knowledge of and experience in quality improvement and accreditation activities.
Experience and comfort with use of an electronic health record.
Familiarity with AAAHC or Joint Commission accreditation processes.
Experience with population health data analytics.
