The Director is responsible for student global and community initiatives for all Tarleton students. The Director assists in proactively identifying, planning, and implementing programs that cultivate civically engaged graduates through peer education, involvement, and recognition initiatives, and reports progress toward meeting established goals. The Director provides structured leadership for community initiatives that equip students for work, life, service, and leadership in a global economy and transnational workforce.

Partner with stakeholders across the university to implement programs and opportunities that strengthen community and connection at Tarleton. Create assessment plans and initiatives for the division and program to inform decisions.

Position is in-office with typical work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with some weekend and evening hours expected during peak Department, Division, and University events. Important University events such as Orientation, semester openings, Commencement, and Homecoming require high visibility and presence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate events related to the goals of the department, Division, and University.

  • Advise and facilitate leadership programs such as the Tarleton Texas Leadership Scholars Program and the National Society of Leadership and Success chapter.

  • Effectively manage assigned budgets and foster a collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and operational excellence.

  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as approved or directed by the Assistant Vice President, Global, Community Connections.

  • Contribute to the overall success of Tarleton State University’s programs by advising and assisting the Assistant Vice President, Global, Community Connections on matters regarding students and performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervision

The Director is supervised by the Assistant Vice President, Global and Community Connections and supervises appropriate related staff.

 

Minimum Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in the relevant field of study.

  • Eight (8) years successful leadership experience in public speaking and delivering engaging presentations, coordinating and managing events from planning to execution, and leading teams with effective supervision and strategic guidance.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of student engagement, retention, and success strategies

  • Leadership skills in the selection and supervision of employees and budgeting

  • Ability to solve challenging problems effectively and manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and other relevant computer applications.

  • No Visa sponsorship is available for this position

  • Must be eligible by law to access the SEVIS database.

Doctoral degree in relevant field of study

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary range is commensurate and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
