The Director of Sales & Wholesale Merchandising leads wholesale revenue growth by owning account strategy, seasonal sell-in/sell-through, assortment planning, and merchandising execution across key wholesale partners. This role bridges sales strategy and product merchandising, ensuring assortments are both commercially strong and brand-right while driving profitable growth.

Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Account Management

  • Own wholesale revenue targets across all accounts and regions
  • Develop and execute seasonal sales strategies to meet and exceed volume and margin goals
  • Lead key account relationships (e.g., Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, specialty boutiques, distributors)
  • Negotiate terms including pricing, markdown support, returns, exclusives, and delivery windows
  • Partner with accounts on growth opportunities, doors, and category expansion

Wholesale Merchandising & Assortment Strategy

  • Lead seasonal assortment planning by account, channel, and region
  • Align product offering to customer needs, floor sets, and door-specific strategies
  • Partner with Design and Product teams to influence line architecture, depth, and pricing
  • Ensure cohesive storytelling across collections, launches, and key moments (Q4, gifting, etc.)
  • Oversee seasonal sell-in tools, line sheets, and showroom merchandising

Forecasting, Planning & Performance

  • Own wholesale forecasting and demand planning in partnership with Planning and Operations
  • Analyze sell-through, inventory levels, and market trends to inform future assortments
  • Drive in-season strategies including reorders, swaps, markdowns, and chase opportunities
  • Monitor margin performance and take action to protect profitability

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with Marketing on go-to-market calendars, campaigns, and product launches
  • Partner with Operations and Production to align delivery timelines and inventory flow
  • Work with Finance on revenue forecasting, margin targets, and budget planning
  • Serve as the voice of wholesale customer insights internally

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the wholesale sales and merchandising team
  • Set clear performance goals and KPIs
  • Build scalable processes to support growth and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in wholesale sales and merchandising, preferably in contemporary fashion or consumer goods
  • Proven success managing top-tier wholesale accounts and achieving revenue growth
  • Strong assortment planning, merchandising, and analytical skills
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on execution capability
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Salary Range: $152,800.00 - $191,000.00

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  The base salary is just one component of J.Crew Group’s competitive total rewards strategy that also includes the opportunity for bonus, competitive benefits and perks.
