About the Role
To ensures AIA maintains and strengthens its leadership in delivering compelling life and living propositions across our markets. These propositions encompass life & living protection benefits such as death, critical illness, and disability, triggered by diagnosis rather than treatment.
• Building Domain Expertise
Maintain deep knowledge of global life and living insurance trends, including identifying new coverages and coverages for new segments. Stay informed on relevant medical advancements (e.g., diagnostic techniques) and public health initiatives (e.g., national screening programs)
• Driving Thought Leadership
Lead strategic thinking to identify opportunities that better serve existing customers, attract new segments, and align with stakeholder interests—including distributors and shareholders.
• Develop initial proposition concepts to address these opportunities.
• Business Engagement and Impact
Partner with Business Units (BUs) to bring innovative propositions to market. Demonstrate the commercial potential and how Group-led initiatives can accelerate delivery while minimizing local resource demands. Innovation should drive quality growth by attracting new customers or increasing share of wallet in a sustainable manner.
• Enhancing Technical Capabilities
Identify capability gaps in life and living propositions across BUs. Develop and implement plans to build market-leading expertise.
• Supporting Strategic initiatives
Apply domain knowledge to support Group or BU-led initiatives such as market entry, transactions, and stakeholder communications.
Expected Outcomes
Deliver sustainable growth in customer numbers, Value of New Business (VONB), and Operating Profit Before Tax (OPAT) through segment-specific life and living propositions that integrate Product, Ecosystem, and Positioning (PEP) principles.
These roles and responsibilities may be performed independently for a standalone life and living product or in conjunction with other Centre Of Excellence (COEs) where a proposition addresses multiple needs.
For proposition initiatives addressing multiple needs you may be required to take responsibility for leading the overall project with support of other COEs or just lead the life and living component.
Building Domain Expertise
- Monitor global trends in life and living insurance from both a supply side e.g. new product launches and definition changes and a demand side e.g. changing customer needs and buying behavior and developments in associated areas such as diagnostic testing and government policy.
- Maintain deep knowledge of Asia-Pacific markets and key global developments, assessing implications for AIA.
Thought Leadership
- Evaluate AIA’s strengths and weaknesses in general and relative to competition.
- Synthesize insights to identify high-potential growth opportunities and required organizational capabilities to realize them.
- Maintain a view of the growth opportunities, sustainability, risks, capability strengths and gaps, and recommended priorities.
Business Engagement and Impact
- Align prioritized opportunities with the Head of Propositions, Group Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), RCEs and CEO.
- Share proposition ideas with Business Units (BUs) CEOs, CMOs, and Chief Proposition Officers (CPOs)in a targeted and engaging manner.
- Secure commitment from BUs and align on scope and timelines through the Strategic Proposition Planning (SPP) process.
- Develop initial proposition specifications incorporating Product, Ecosystem, and Positioning (PEP) principles.
- Identify and deliver central assets or capabilities to accelerate BU implementation—e.g., support from reinsurers, governance functions, ecosystem partners, and planning tools.
- Engage AIA Vitality COE on how to integrate with Vitality
Enhancing Technical Capabilities
- Evaluate BU capabilities in life and living propositions. Where gaps exist, agree on capability-building plans with CEOs/RCEs
- Defining metrics or methods to establish impact/effectiveness of the capability building
Support Strategic Initiatives
- Provide expert input on other GO or BU-led initiatives. This includes:
Evaluating life and living potential of a new opportunity - Risk appetite reviews
Operational Reporting
- Perform additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
- Provide monthly updates to the Head of Propositions on deliverables completed in previous month and those due to be delivered in the coming month. Be aware of where effort is consumed and be able to share a view on which initiatives have the most and least impact relative to effort involved.
- Engage Underwriting COE on approach to underwriting.
- Collaborate with BU teams (typically CMO/CPO or Head of Propositions) to support market execution. While BUs lead detailed execution (e.g., IT specs, operations, pricing), group support may range from technical input to project leadership.
- Provide ongoing updates on planned activities and flag issues that may impact delivery timelines on Group Proposition key initiatives as agreed and communicated with RCE, CEO & BU.
