Director of Finance - Freelance

We’re entering a critical period of growth and need a Freelance Director of Finance to step in immediately and partner closely with our CCO and executive team the week of 4/27/26. This is a highly hands-on role focused on real-time financial modeling, staffing strategy, utilization, and burn management.

This is not a traditional accounting role. It is commercial finance leadership with a strong emphasis on live decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMMERCIAL FINANCE & LIVE MODELING (Primary Mandate)
  • Partner directly with CCO and leadership on real-time staffing, utilization, and burn modeling
  • Build and maintain live financial models to support resourcing and hiring decisions
  • Act as the financial voice in day-to-day commercial and staffing decisions
  • Quickly assess margin impact of scopes, staffing plans, and client changes
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership
FP&A & RESOURCE PLANNING
  • Support rolling forecasts with a focus on near-term revenue and margin visibility
  • Align staffing plans to revenue coverage and pipeline
  • Identify and flag risks around utilization, over/under staffing, and margin compression
  • Partner with production and account teams to ensure scopes are deliverable at target margin
FINANCIAL OPERATIONS 
  • Provide light oversight / guidance on financial processes as needed
  • Ensure continuity in forecasting, reporting, and financial discipline during engagement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Available to work on-site in NYC 4/30 & 5/1 
  • 8–12+ years in agency finance, with strong commercial finance experience
  • Proven experience in staffing models, utilization tracking, and burn management
  • Highly proficient in Excel / Google Sheets modeling (must be fast and hands-on)
  • Comfortable working in real time with senior leadership and making quick recommendations
  • Experience in fast-paced, founder-led or high-growth environments
  • Strong communicator who can simplify complex financial concepts
