The Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership for engineering, maintenance, utilities, fleet, and facility infrastructure across Novo Health Services’ healthcare textile network. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all production facilities, equipment, and physical plant systems that support Novo’s healthcare partners.

The Director of Engineering partners closely with executive leadership, operations, and plant teams to develop and execute engineering strategies that improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, optimize energy utilization, and support long-term capital planning. This position plays a critical role in supporting Novo’s continued growth by standardizing engineering practices, strengthening preventive maintenance programs, and ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance across all facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Maintenance Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight of engineering and maintenance operations across all Novo production facilities, depots, and corporate properties.

  • Lead the development and implementation of standardized preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Ensure reliable operation of plant equipment including wash floor systems, dryers, finishing equipment, conveyors, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.

  • Establish and monitor engineering performance metrics including equipment uptime, maintenance costs, reliability indicators, and downtime reduction initiatives.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to plant maintenance leaders and engineering teams.

Capital Planning & Equipment Strategy

  • Lead capital planning, evaluation, and implementation for equipment and infrastructure across existing and new facilities.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and ROI analysis for automation, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements.

  • Support plant expansions, facility upgrades, and startup activities for new facilities.

  • Provide recommendations to executive leadership regarding infrastructure investments and long-term engineering strategy.

Facilities, Utilities & Energy Management

  • Oversee facility infrastructure including boilers, air compressors, water systems, HVAC, and other critical utilities.

  • Develop and manage energy and water conservation initiatives across the organization.

  • Monitor and manage utility consumption and fuel costs to improve efficiency and cost control.

  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of alarm, safety, and security systems.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations including environmental and safety standards.

  • Support adherence to healthcare laundry industry standards including HLAC, OSHA, and Joint Commission requirements where applicable.

  • Maintain audit readiness and ensure proper regulatory documentation and reporting.

  • Lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.

Inventory, Vendor & Resource Management

  • Ensure proper inventory management of critical maintenance parts and equipment.

  • Oversee procurement of supplies, services, and equipment necessary for engineering operations.

  • Develop and maintain strategic vendor partnerships to support maintenance, reliability, and capital projects.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, develop, and support engineering and maintenance leadership across the organization.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor engineering and maintenance personnel.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish clear performance expectations.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Partner with executive leadership to align engineering strategy with Novo’s long-term growth objectives.

  • Participate in operational reviews and cross-functional planning discussions.

  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry best practices related to healthcare laundry operations and industrial maintenance.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering or maintenance leadership experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.

  • Experience overseeing multi-site engineering or maintenance operations strongly preferred.

  • Experience in industrial laundry, textile processing, manufacturing, or high-volume production environments highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated success implementing preventive maintenance programs and reliability initiatives.

  • Experience leading capital equipment projects, facility upgrades, or infrastructure improvements.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, plant utilities, and facility infrastructure.

  • Experience with CMMS / maintenance management systems.

  • Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business systems.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel between company facilities as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license.
