Role Overview

The Director of Engagement mentors, supports, and motivates Jewish students across Queens, helping them develop their leadership skills and use their authentic selves to build community for their peers. Accessible to students of all backgrounds - and grounded in a wide range of Jewish knowledge, experiences, and practices - they will work collaboratively with the staff team to implement innovative engagement strategies that engage thousands of students across the borough. The Director of Engagement will help to ensure that Jewish students at Queens feel seen, supported, and connected.

What You’ll Do

• In partnership with the managing director, mold and execute a strategic engagement plan that helps Queens Hillel achieve its goals across the borough and all our campuses.
• Build meaningful relationships with no less than 180 students.
• Identify the needs of underserved students and develop engagement strategies for meeting their needs.
• Mentor student club leadership to cultivate a Jewish community that is caring, diverse, welcoming, and actively inclusive.
• Maintain student data, ensuring Queens Hillel is collecting relevant and useful information that helps us reach our goals and complies with Hillel International’s Measurement program.
• In collaboration with staff and student leaders and with an eye for Jewish pluralism, lead the development and execution of all programming, including Shabbat, holiday celebrations, and small to large-scale events.
• Supervise engagement-focused students and/or staff people.
• Other tasks as assigned.

What You’ve Accomplished

• A bachelor’s degree
• At least 4-7 years of professional work experience (Hillel or Jewish experience is a plus)
• Experience supervising early career professionals
• Ability to develop an end-to-end program from initial design to successful measurement and evaluation
• Proven success as a relationship builder
• Experience or affinity working with and motivating Jewish students
• Creativity, flexibility, initiative, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment where prioritizing, multitasking, organization, and attention to detail are essential

What You’ll Receive

• Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $65,000-75,000, commensurate with experience.
