The Director of Device Technology leads the Device Technology Unit within the Research & Development (R&D) Center for New Technologies department, driving the exploration, evaluation, and prototyping of advanced technologies, materials, componentry, and modules that support the ongoing advancement of the company’s prosthetic, bracing & support, and clinical services product platforms. This role is responsible for setting strategic direction, managing execution, fostering innovation, and collaborating closely with internal and external teams to ensure the development of next-generation solutions that enhance mobility and quality of life for end users.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the strategic roadmap for device technology research, aligned with company objectives and product platform needs.
Lead a multidisciplinary team in the identification, assessment, and prototyping of emerging technologies, materials, and components relevant to the company platforms.
Oversee the design and execution of feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and prototyping projects.
Collaborate with product development and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies into product pipelines.
Maintain awareness of scientific, technological, and industry trends; proactively identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
Establish partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, suppliers, and technology providers to expand the unit’s capabilities.
Manage budgets, resources, and timelines for device technology initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within scope.
Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of creativity, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Present findings, concepts, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in R&D leadership roles within the prosthetic, medical device, or related technology sectors.
Deep understanding of materials, electronic and mechanical components, and their application in medical devices, particularly prosthetics.
Demonstrated track record of leading technology scouting, prototyping, and innovation initiatives.
Strong project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
