Reporting to a member of the Cockrell Schools Senior Leadership team in the Cockrell School, this position will develop, execute and drive major and principal giving strategies for the #2 ranked Hildebrand Department of Petroleum Engineering and the #10 ranked Biomedical Engineering Department. The Director of Development will cultivate relationships with alumni to elevate each department’s major gift fundraising output during the current capital campaign as well as for future campaigns.
Build and carry an active portfolio of 50 to 65 prospective donors. Engage in qualification, strategy, and relationship building to close major gift(s) of $100,000+ and principal gifts of $1M+. Consistently raise more than $3+ million per year. (35%)
Conceptualize, prepare, and present funding proposals and other materials necessary to solicit and close gifts. (30%)
Develop prospect pipeline through visits, events, correspondence, and regular calls as required for donors in the portfolio. (10%)
Maintain appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies, and forecasting in VIP. (10%)
Effectively work with faculty, academic, and administrative leaders. (5%)
Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all University development officers to further the development goals of the University. (5%)
Perform other related functions as assigned. (5%)
Bachelor's degree.
A minimum of one year of increasingly responsible experience in major gifts fundraising or related fields.
Experience in developing a strategic development plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources.
Proven and measurable track record of successful face-to-face interactions with prospective donors.
Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective donors.
Experience in developing and presenting gift proposals to prospective donors.
Experience supporting senior administrators, faculty, and fellow gift officers.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects.
Proven project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Must be able to travel to visit prospects and donors.
Capable of working independently.
Work with integrity and professionalism.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Two or more years of increasingly responsible experience in individual major gifts fundraising with a track record of consistently closing numerous major gifts in excess of two and a half million dollars annually.
Experience working in a large-scale research university.
Experience working in a technical environment.
Experience with prospect management systems, e.g. VIP, Raiser's Edge, etc.
$75,000+ depending on qualifications
Work is performed in a standard office environment or hybrid work model.
Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation.
Position includes significant travel is required
Work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
