The Director of Content Design leads the strategic vision, operational excellence, and practice maturity of content design across Humana’s Consumer Digital products. This leader sets the direction for how Humana communicates in digital channels, ensuring our voice is clear, inclusive, and consistently aligned to our purpose.

You will guide a high performing team of content designers who partner closely with Experience Design, Product, Engineering, Compliance, Clinical, Marketing, and Brand teams to bring Humana’s voice to life across digital experiences. This role reports to the AVP of Content Development and plays a critical part in elevating content design as a strategic driver of member outcomes and business value.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Vision & Content Leadership

  • Define and scale a comprehensive UX content design strategy across Humana’s digital ecosystem.

  • Establish long‑term vision grounded in health literacy, accessibility, and trust—ensuring content meets diverse member needs and regulatory expectations.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a best‑in‑class content design team supporting web, mobile, chatbot, voice, and emerging digital touchpoints.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, creativity, inclusion, and craft‑driven impact.

Champion of Humana’s Voice

  • Ensure a consistent, human, and inclusive voice that reflects Humana’s values of kindness, clarity, and care.

  • Guide teams in creating content that is empathetic, understandable, and supportive—especially when addressing complex healthcare topics.

Cross‑Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with leaders across Product, Experience Design, Engineering, Marketing, Compliance, Legal, and Clinical organizations.

  • Ensure content strategy is aligned with enterprise priorities and integrated throughout the product lifecycle.

Content Systems & Governance

  • Design and scale frameworks, taxonomies, governance models, and systems that ensure content quality and efficiency across teams.

  • Oversee capabilities for localization, personalization, content reuse, and structured content management.

Insight‑Driven Content Strategy

  • Use user research, data, analytics, and behavioral science to inform content decisions and optimize member engagement.

  • Champion experimentation, testing, and continuous learning to measure and improve content performance.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee editorial standards, content workflows, and content operations.

  • Ensure high‑quality, compliant, efficient delivery of content across all Consumer Digital products.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in UX content design, content strategy, product writing, or editorial leadership—preferably in healthcare, insurance, or similarly regulated industries

  • 5+ years leading content or design teams within large, matrixed, or complex organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders through strong communication, executive presence, and strategic thinking

  • Expertise in health literacy, plain language, accessibility (WCAG/ADA), and inclusive content practices

  • Proven experience implementing and scaling content systems, including content design systems, CMS workflows, taxonomies, and metadata structures

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Human‑Centered Design, or a related field

Work-At-Home Information

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.

  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.

  • Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$201,600 - $277,200 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
