Director of Claims, Auto Injury and Litigation

As Director of Claims, you will be accountable for the strategic development and implementation of claims handling processes within a specific line(s) of business. Play a critical role in delivering strong financial results for both the company and external business partners. Responsible for integration of efficiencies, expansion of claims technical expertise, continued delivery of superior client service, and regulatory compliance within the assigned areas of responsibility. You will participate in business planning such budgeting, process improvement, and performance management.

What you’ll do

  • Oversee first- and third-party injury claims through litigation.
  • Fulfill general management responsibilities including integration of efficiencies in claims handling process, business planning, budget management, staffing, and analysis/communication of results.
  • Provide coaching to direct reports via feedback and development opportunities.
  • Participate in performance management, performance reviews, and administration of compensation changes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with company business partners.
  • Communicate with key departments across the enterprise on claims results and challenges.
  • Provide guidance to Managers and Assistant Managers with daily questions, claim file management, client correspondence, or escalated calls.
  • Develop leadership and technical skills within staff.
  • Build capability of direct and indirect reports to broaden claims expertise.
  • Recruit, train, and develop employees in claims functions.
  • Review large losses, claims with potentially significant exposures, and claims which exceed the authority of subordinates.
  • Ensure proper service and settlement of all claims while remaining compliant with state specific regulations.
  • Manage and produce favorable financial results on claims metrics including cycle time, audit scores, expenses, closing ratio, etc.
  • Oversee litigation with a focus on resolution in a quick, fair, and cost-effective manner.
  • Integrate claims experience with insurance product coverage design by identifying trends that may impact insurance policy language or underwriting processes.
  • Function as a positive, effective advocate for change and growth.
  • Continue to foster a team-oriented, collaborative, and productive environment.
     

This might describe you

  • At least 10 years of experience handling various types of personal lines automobile claims.
  • A minimum of 5 years managing third party injury claims.
  • A minimum of 7 years in a management role.
  • Proven ability to build effective and engaged teams that consistently meet business goals.
  • Effective and efficient use of computer applications including MS Office products.
  • Excellent organizational skills, customer service, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have professional credibility and the ability to influence other leaders.
  • Experience in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Familiarity of public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable
