Job Description
The Director of Business Excellence is responsible for leading the adoption and application of Lean Manufacturing principles, supporting teams to implementing continuous improvements (CI), working closely with business unit (BU) teams to align internal processes to business targets, communicating information from corporate and senior leadership to BU teams, supporting and improving the Quality Management System (QMS) and Product Lifecycle Management processes, and compiling and reporting data for various metrics and initiatives like Teledyne’s 80/20 program.
The Director of Business Excellence may oversee various functions and processes including, but not limited to:
Operations Project Management
QMS Administration
Regulatory Audits
Document Control and Configuration Management
Customer Service (RMA repairs and warranty claims)
Equipment Calibration
The Director of Business Excellence works with virtually all groups within the BU, with external BUs, and corporate teams, on projects and initiatives covering a diverse range of disciplines. Therefore, a strong background in Operations, Production, Supply Chain, and Lean CI is required. Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and management experience are required as the Director of Business Excellence also oversees a team of both individual contributors and sub-department Managers.
The Director of Business Excellence will work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, Product Development, Sales, Finance, and Executive Management to communicate needs and challenges, define improvements and solutions, and drive execution of BU and Company goals.
Responsibilities:
Assess, analyze and implement solutions across the BU to identify and eliminate waste, organize around Lean processes and deliver excellence on safety, environmental, quality, productivity and cost.
Lead and train the organization on Value-Stream Mapping, including the identification of areas for improvement that increase value to Teledyne customers.
Build, maintain, and leverage relationships internally and across Teledyne to promote a culture and mindset of continuous improvement and compliance.
Lead a culture of accountability throughout the organization by facilitating an effective goal deployment process that aligns with business unit and corporate goals.
Maintain current knowledge base and ensure all work activities are conducted in compliance with the regulatory requirements and related policies and procedures. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner and managed in a disciplined fashion.
Maintain and report status of operations projects and initiatives, keep BU President and GM’s informed of progress and roadblocks.
Develop metrics to track goals, projects and compliance statistics. Data analytics will be used to demonstrate success in core areas.
Support initiatives like 80/20, inventory management, managed working capital, and other EBIT improvement activities.
Support capacity analysis, and capacity to demand alignment, using a data-based approach.
Define and manage optimal capital expenditures to stay within budget while delivering maximized results.
Fosters a sense of urgency and champions change that push for continuous improvement, resulting in efficiency improvements, sustained quality and safety, and lower costs.
Requirements:
BS degree required (technical field preferred)
MS/MBA degree highly desired
10+ years of high-level leadership experience required
Extensive experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques required
Experience working in a manufacturing/operations environment required
Strong analytical skills and experience creating metrics to track success required
Experience with integrating and implementing new policies and procedures into business processes required
Experience with change management and corporate initiative implementation required
Experience with industrial technology companies preferred
Must have strong ability to influence various constituents, including senior management, and external teams, by communicating concepts clearly and credibly to multiple audiences, especially “sideways” and “up” where constituents are not within reporting structure
Must be results driven including baselining, measuring, and achieving stated goals
Must be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced environment across multiple sites
Must be a US Citizen or have Permanent Resident Status (no exception)
Salary Range:
$188,000.00-$250,700.000

Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, local regulations (such as minimum wage), education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
